1. Read verses 15–22. In what ways were the people violating the Sabbath, and what specific action did Nehemiah take to reestablish proper observance of the Sabbath?

2. What is Nehemiah reminding them about God’s past response to Israel’s un- faithfulness (vv. 23–27), and what strikes you about Nehemiah’s response to the Jews who intermarried with foreigners?

3. In spite of Nehemiah’s zeal and passion to lead fellow Israelites to a renewed devotion to God, the people just won’t do it. What does Nehemiah’s expe- rience with the people reveal about the human heart?
