2. In 2 Timothy 4:7–8 Paul wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”

How are Paul’s words similar to those of Nehemiah’s? (See Nehemiah 13:14, 22, and 31.)

Nehemiah Ends in the Dark

1. Compare the spiritual condition of the nation of Israel, as presented in Nehemiah 13, with their spiritual condition during the time they lived in the promised land (refer to the introductory Lessons 1 and 2). What have you learned about their inability to keep the Mosaic law?

NEED FOR JESUS “This story ends in the dark because it is not fully over. First and foremost, the story is not over because the promised seed has not yet appeared. This part of the story shows the blessing of the ceremonial temple worship God instituted so that His people could approach Him in worship and live in com- munion with Him.
