LESSON 24 3. What do you learn about the new covenant from the Foundational Truth and the following Scriptures, and why is it glorious to live under the new covenant? Jeremiah 31:33–34 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the L ord : I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the L ord ,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the L ord . For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Ezekiel 36:26–27 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
4. Ezekiel 10 describes a vision of the glory of the Lord departing the original temple because of Israel’s sin. Nowhere in Ezra or Nehemiah do we see that the glory of the Lord returned to the newly rebuilt temple. When would the glory of the Lord return? (See Mark 9:2 and 11:15–16; John 1:14–18; and Heb. 1:3.)
