LESSON 25 5. What is the relationship between tithing and turning back to the One who created you, and what are ways we rob God today?
DAY 5
The Book of Remembrance and the Day of the Lord (Malachi 3:13–4:6)
1. Read verses 13–15. What is God’s charge, the people’s objection (“but you say”), and God’s initial response to them?
2. Read verses 16–18. Those who genuinely feared the Lord and experienced a change of mind listened attentively, “and a book of remembrance was writ- ten before him of those who feared the L ord and esteemed his name” (v. 16). Persian kings kept records of the actions of people who should be rewarded (Est. 6:1–3). Hence, a book of remembrance was a familiar concept. It is good to know that God doesn’t have to read a book to see our faithful actions.
What is encouraging to you about God’s heart for His people in 3:16–18?
3. God concludes His dispute (3:13) by reflecting on the coming day of the Lord (4:1–3). What is promised for the wicked (Mal. 3:5 and 4:1) and for those who fear God? (See 4:2–3.)
