The Second Exodus - 26 Week

LESSON 6

“This divine title highlights the absolute authority and ability of God to ac- complish his purpose. This title occurs five times in this section [Zechariah 1], and three of the references are in 1:3. The very beginning of Zechariah’s message sets the tone of hope that will characterize his prophecy. The hope is not just wishful thinking; it is certain based on the word, authority, and power of the God, who in addition to his inherent omnipotence has all the resources of his creation to accomplish his purpose.” 22

4. When you drift from following God wholeheartedly, how might God’s title, Lord of Hosts , encourage you to repent and turn back to Him?

DAY 3

THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO ZECHARIAH IN VISIONS Vision One: The horsemen among the myrtle trees (Zechariah 1:7–17)

Note : The Angel of the Lord, mentioned several times in the book of Zechariah, is most understood to be the Son of God, a Christophany, or pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus Christ, manifested in physical form. (See also Gen. 16:7–13, 22:11–12; Ex. 3:2; and Judg. 2:1.)

1. Read Zechariah 1:7–11. Describe the first of the eight visions that Zechariah saw at night. (Draw it if you like.)

2. The myrtle tree is possibly symbolic of Israel. 23 Given this, how would the man on the horse, standing among the myrtle trees, have brought comfort and encouragement to God’s people? (See also Zech. 1:3.)
