The Second Exodus - 26 Week

FOUNDATIONAL TRUTH

SATAN, THE ACCUSER Satan is God’s enemy, and therefore also the enemy of God’s people. One way he fights against God’s elect is to bring accusations against them to try to get God to reject them (Job 1:9–10; and Rev. 12:10). In chapter 3, Zechariah is given a vision of Satan accusing Joshua, the high priest, because his filthy garments have defiled him, making him unfit for service before God. But God rejects Satan’s case because He has chosen Jerusalem and Joshua to represent the people. God Himself orders that Joshua’s filthy garments be removed and replaced with clean ones, representing the removal of his sin and bestowing on him—and all of faithful Israel—new righteousness. Satan’s accusations against believers cannot stand against the blood of Jesus, who washes us clean. We can be confident that God will accept all those whom He has chosen (Rev. 3:5). 26
