The Second Exodus - 26 Week

LESSON 8

LESSON 8 ZECHARIAH 6 : 9 – 8 : 23

Thus says the L ord : I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the L ord of hosts, the holy mountain. —Zechariah 8:3 In the previous lessons, we learned that the first five visions of Zechariah intended to comfort and encourage the returned exiles, assuring them of God’s faithfulness and continued favor toward Israel. And Zechariah’s final three visions dealt with the cleansing of Israel’s sin and her spiritual restoration. About two years following the eight visions, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah again, and he preached four messages. In these messages, he urged the Jews to live righteously and encouraged them with prophetic words of Israel’s future glory and power, when their Messiah would reign.

Zechariah 6:9–8:23 6 9 And the word of the L ord came to me: 10 “Take from the exiles Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon, and go the same day to the house of Josiah, the son of Zephaniah. 11 Take from them silver and gold, and make a crown, and set it on the head of Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. 12 And say to him, ‘Thus says the L ord of hosts, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the L ord . 13 It is he who shall build the temple of the L ord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”’ 14 And the crown shall be in the temple of the L ord as a reminder to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen the son of Zephaniah. 15 “And those who are far off shall come and help to build the temple of the L ord . And you shall know that the L ord of hosts has sent me to you. And this shall come to pass, if you will diligently obey the voice of the L ord your God.” 7 In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the L ord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Chislev. 2 Now the people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech and their men to entreat the favor of the L ord , 3 saying to the priests of the house of the L ord of hosts and the prophets, “Should I weep and abstain in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?”
