2. Read Zechariah 6:12–14. The heart of the Davidic covenant found in 2 Samuel 7:16 says, “And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.” Furthermore, Jeremiah 33:15 says, “In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.”
What connection do you see between what the Branch will do (Zech. 6:12–13) and God’s covenant with David?
3. This message of Zechariah was meant to give the Israelites hope during their trials and a reminder that “This shall come to pass, if you will diligently obey the voice of the L ord your God” (Zech. 6:15).
What have you learned about Jesus, our King and High Priest, that gives you hope; and how will you diligently obey His voice?
DAY 4
Zechariah’s Messages for Israel (Zechariah 7:1–14)
Note : The Law of Moses included only one fast for Israel—the Day of Atonement. However, while in exile, the Jews engaged in additional fasts to commemorate the capture and destruction of Jerusalem. These fasts had not been commanded by God. 28
1. Read Zechariah 7:1–3. What question did the people of Bethel ask the priests, and why did they ask it?
