Draining the Swamp In Our Modern ‘Churches’
By Pastor Michael Rorabeck August 2025 Prior to President Trump’s first term in office back in 2016, he often touted he was going to come into office and “drain the swamp” in Washington. Once elected, he ran into a “buzz saw” in the form of “Washington politics” which he was unprepared for. He then, over the next four years, spent all his energies keeping himself out of jail and from being impeached. “Russiagate” sabotaged any effort to “drain the swamp.” But after four years of plan- ning his return, strategy and revenge, he came in with a plan which took off at break- neck speed. The first thing he did was hit the “swamp” where it hurts the most — the pock- etbook! And now, much of the swamp — such as corrupt NGOs and politicians — are now swirling around the drain at the bottom of the swamp awaiting their eventual demise. But an even bigger question needs to be asked: Does the American Church need drain- ing? Well, before we get around to answering that question, let’s take a closer look. Let’s start with our sheep! Back in 1957 when I went to kindergarten, over 90% of America was Christian. Today it hovers around only 60% of Americans identify and practice as Christian! Only 13% of American “born again” Christians hold to a consis- tently biblical worldview, which is defined as one based on biblical principles and commands. Only 17% of “practicing Christians” read their Bibles on a daily basis. Only 16% of self-identifying Chris- tians believe in the Trinity — a sta- tistic that, while alarming, should not be surprising given the amount of increasing biblical illit- eracy in the Church. Among young teens, only 32% believe God exists! Among teens, only 8% hold to a biblical world- view! Only 21% of “born again” teens believe they will live with God in eternity because of a deci- sion to trust in Christ as their Lord and Savior … but nearly 40% be- lieve in reincarnation. Some 71% of Americans support same sex marriages … and some 61% of practicing Christians be- lieve the same! The abortion rate among “Chris- tians” is nearing that of the rest of society’s abortion rate. The same holds true for divorce rates. The majority of “practicing Chris- tians” — 54% — including pastors, admit to viewing porn; and a large share — including pastors — say they are comfortable with the habit! The gap in porn use among Christians and non-Christians has grown narrower. Some 75% of Christian men report consuming porn “frequently!” Some 40% of

anymore. Some 80% of churches have formal discipline policies, yet 54% of pastors report that not a single member has been formally disciplined in their tenures!
Christian women report consum- ing porn “frequently!” A total of 54% of Christians report viewing porn, compared to 68% of non- Christians who report the same. And once again, 49% of the 54% of Christians viewing porn are “com- fortable” with their habit!
Back in 2023, my little blue col- lar midwestern town of less than 50,000 had its own “Pride Fest” supported by several local churches. My church showed up to pray against what was going on inside and after we concluded in prayer, a couple of us went inside to see what it was all about. Pastors were out glee- fully campaigning for abortion — the murder of children. The signs they held read: “Pro-faith … Pro-family … “Pro-choice.” How can you call yourself “pro-family” when you are will- ing to put an end to the life of the most innocent life of the family — the unborn child? It makes no sense — and is rep- rehensible! The “First Congregational Church’s” booth displayed a banner which read: “In this congregation, we believe: LOVE IS LOVE, BLACK LIVES MATTER, CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL, NO HUMAN IS ILLE- GAL, ALL GENDERS ARE WHOLE, HOLY & GOOD, WOMEN HAVE AGENCY OVER THEIR BODIES.” In the concession area there were “drag queens” seductively dancing in front of families who were eating their lunch. There was a family in which the mother gave her elementary school-aged son a dollar bill to place in the dancer’s “G-string.” To say I am ashamed of the American Church is an under- statement. And if I’m ashamed of the Church, what must the Lord think? Trump has “pulled the plug” — and the DC swamp is draining, with Federal agencies and employ- ees, corrupt politicians and NGOs such as USAID all now swirling around the drain, awaiting their eventual demise. But what of the Church? Who is going to “pull the plug” on the cor- rupt Church of America? Deep down inside, I believe we all know who will, and when HE does, will you be one of the compromised pastors swirling around the drain … awaiting your eventual demise? Email: mrorabeckc21@yahoo.com
For far too long, American churches have strayed away from
practicing Church discipline due to pastors’ cowardice when it comes to confronting sin in our culture. And “because a little leaven has been allowed” in these churches, the whole lump has been leavened tainting the purity of the church! Instead of the church influencing the culture, the culture is influencing the Church! Sadly, viewing the statistics and the condition of the American Church today, it becomes obvious that there is very little difference separating the Church from the evil culture outside its doors. A primary cause of this crisis is the Church’s increasing neglect of sound teaching! Many modern day churches, in their effort to attract large crowds and avoid any kind of controversy, have abandoned ex- pository preaching and robust doctrinal instruction in favor of feel good candy cane messages. Apostle Paul warned that a time will come when people “will not en- dure sound teaching but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.” And many pastors today are more than happy to accommodate!
Hmmmm … I might be mistaken but it sure looks to me that we are losing our sheep to the enemy” and that failure is on us! Now let’s take a closer look at how pastors are doing. Only 51% of senior pastors have a consis- tently biblical worldview! Less than 30% of associate pastors have a consistently biblical worldview! Only 13% of teaching pastors have a consistently biblical worldview! Only 12% of youth pastors have a consistently biblical worldview! Research shows churches, pas- tors and youth leaders are increas- ingly “unreliable” for truly biblical discipleship. That statement alone should break our hearts, and is why our sheep are so lost today! Only 1 in 4 pastors — that’s 25% — believe Adam and Eve to have been real people! Research shows some 49% of pastors frequently view porn, and some 38% of them report that they are addicted to porn. Some 11% of pastors admit to having adulterous affairs with those within their congregations, however I suppose viewing too much porn may lead to that! Not only is homosexuality widely accepted within the Church today, it is also “celebrated” within the Church — with churches proudly hosting “Pride Fests” and planting pride flags on their church lawns! Gay and “trans” “pastors” now oc- cupy and preach from the pulpit! A staggering number of pastors no longer support Israel, with many believing that Israel to no longer be God’s chosen people!
