often include our future plans. I would tell those that asked what we were planning to do and where we were hoping to be next. There were times that we would travel several hundred miles and I would tell anyone that asked. When that young man told me he knew where we were and when we were there, I suddenly realized the very real pos- sibility that drugs cold be planted under our truck and we would unknow- ingly carry them across the country. If anything happened that would cause a search (and we have been searched) and drugs were found, there would be no way to talk our way out of that. I was far more careful about what information I gave about future plans after that. The holidays were not very far off and we were wanting to get back home to see the kids. We had been at our last setup for a couple of weeks and had met many friendly people that had returned to visit several times. Several of them knew we would be leaving and brought us “going away Christmas gifts.” There was delicious food, craft supplies, and a sign that a very tal- ented artist made. There were some “jerks” we met along the way, but al- most everyone was great. Especially those that would return just to spend some time to- gether. There were several con- versations that involved God and our faith. We would witness when the opportunity presented it- self. I do know we were able to sow many seeds and that is about all you can do when you are just passing through. (2 Tim- othy 2:15). There was one young man who will come up in a future issue that came to see us as we passed back through the same area and we had many conversations with him and were able to attend his baptism. “For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, ‘Fear not; I will

By Harry and Hadassah Wilkinson August 2025 Two damaged lives, a yellow truck, an open road, and a life we never could have imagined. The variety of people that stop to visit while we are set up in a town is fascinating. Almost every- one is polite and curious about who we are and why we are living the way we are. Very seldom does someone get obnoxious with their questions. Probably the majority of those that do not like hav- ing us around are local businesses that watch people spend money with us and somehow think that the money should be spent in their stores. We do keep our busi- ness legal and they have no grounds to legitimately complain. It is usually trying to make trouble with the local laws about how we are selling from a mobile store. No one suc- ceeded in causing prob- lems. There were many good people we met. The few that tried to cause problems were a definite minority. (Philippians 2:15) The local police always stopped in to check us out. I like that because then they know who we are when people try to make trouble for us. Sometimes the police would come during the day, but usually it was in the evening when they had more free time and wanted someone to talk to. The police were always helpful and would offer advice on how to handle many different situations. Most of the people were just curious and wanted to see the tipi. Some could relate to what we were doing and we heard the

comment many times, “I would love to do what you are doing and be able to enjoy the freedom.” My answer was always the same, “Just sell all you have, get a dependable ve- hicle, find something to sell and leave all security behind you and leave.” To my knowledge, no one ever took my advice on how to change their lifestyle. The people that I en- joyed seeing come in were the Game Wardens (or whatever name they had in that location). There were two types of them. One would come dressed in uniform and would ask questions about what we were doing and were obvi- ously looking around while we were talking. The other one would come dressed in civilian clothes and try to look like just another customer. They could be recognized by the spit shine uniform shoes and the blue jeans. The combination stood out and left them looking as though they were try- ing real hard to blend in. The conversation they would have with us would eventually point to trying to find out if we would sell them some illegal feath- ers. I always appreciated the straightforward man that would just come in and say, “I would like to look around.” There was one young man that taught me a les- son that I have never for- gotten. The truck we were traveling in was easily spotted and one folks would remember. This young man asked if we were east of Dallas, TX and gave me the approxi- mate date. I told him that we were there and when he asked, a truth hit me that bothered me the rest of the time we were on the road.
