C edar Crest Golf Course, the beloved, historic golfing venue nestled in the heart of southern Dallas, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 30. This ceremony, attended by community members, public officials, golfers and many others, announced the grand reopening of the iconic jewel of Dallas. Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn King Arnold, Park Board President John Jenkins and Radio One representatives spoke at the ceremony, and about 150 golfers came out to play in the Radio One 10th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic that followed the ribbon cutting.
Cedar Crest Golf Course, designed by the legendary A.W. Tillinghast, provides 18 holes of beautiful greenery and tests the skills of golfers of all levels. The course, home of the 1927 PGA Championship, was closed temporarily for greens maintenance. But now, as of Monday, October 3, 2022, Cedar Crest Golf Course is fully open and ready to welcome the Dallas community back to its beautiful space. Make sure to give Cedar Crest a visit! members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. I can remember like it was yesterday being so excited to see the battle of the bands at halftime while having the opportunity to hear my father call the game as the in-game announcer every year in the stadium. The second rivalry features the University of Texas at Austin and Oklahoma University - a game I know all too well. In 1999, I attended my first Red River Rivalry with my father, and when I experienced that crowd and atmosphere as a teenager I instantly knew that was something I wanted to be a part of. I was very blessed to be a player and play in this rivalry that has created so many memories for me and my family. This competition draws in crowds of die-hard Longhorn and Sooner fans and, like the State Fair Classic, it is held in the legendary Cotton Bowl stadium, which is set to receive a much-deserved upgrade if Proposition A is passed at the November 8th election. I hope that everyone has a chance to get a taste of Texas and bring their families to our beloved State Fair. Sample the classic fair cuisine, witness the agricultural shows and competitions and of course come cheer on The Texas Longhorns at the Red River Showdown. Hook ‘em horns and OU still sucks!

W hen I think of October in Texas, I think of cool mornings, nice afternoons and enjoying the long local tradition of attending The State Fair of Texas! For those who don’t know, The State Fair is an annual celebration of all things Lone Star that has been held at the iconic Dallas staple known as Fair Park since 1886. Nearly two million people from all walks of life flood to the fairgrounds every year to share their support for tradition, agriculture, education, community and football. One of the staples of entertainment at the State Fair is college football, which has continually grown over the last 15 years. There are two century-old football games held at the Fair every year that you have to attend at least once in your lifetime. There is the State Fair Classic, a matchup between the Grambling State University Tigers and the Prairie View A&M University Panthers. These HBCU’s have faced-off since 1925 and are proud
K ipp Oak Cliff Academy, located on the Paul Quinn College campus, has been named the Peter Brodsky Hall after Peter Brodsky, philanthropist and owner of the Shops at RedBird Development. The partnership between the two institutions introduces hundreds of students from neighborhoods across Oak Cliff to the college experience while continuing KIPP Texas’ emphasis on promoting academic excellence. SBA 8(A) CERTIFIED
J BJ Management has received the SBA 8(a) certification. The 8(a) certification is a special program sponsored by the Small Business Administration (SBA) for small businesses. This certification process pre- qualifies the small business as an entity that has sound business practices and supporting infrastructure. This certification assists both the agencies and the small businesses to create contractual relationships through an accelerated procurement process.
J arvis Christian University (JCU) has been named one of 19 Fulbright Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Institutional Leaders for 2022 for its support for Fulbright exchange participants and its promotion of Fulbright program opportunities. The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) has recognized selected HBCUs over the past three years for their strong engagement with the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government's flagship international academic exchange program. Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield commended the HBCUs receiving the designation this year, noting that “HBCUs are an important part of the American and global higher education communities, providing life-changing exchange opportunities for American and international students, faculty, and administrators alike.” “The Fulbright Scholars Program enables us to give our students international exposure,” said JCU President Dr. Lester C. Newman. “Through this program, we are able to provide them with a cultural experience and academic enrichment from abroad. Last year, we welcomed Fulbright Scholars to Jarvis from Tanzania, Tunisia, and Taiwan, and this year we have two Fulbright Scholars from Morocco and Kenya. FUTURE CITY HALL GROUNDBREAKING
Jonah Murray of JBJ Management attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new location of Fort Worth City Hall on September 15, 2022. The hardhats were decorated for this special moment by children from each of the Fort Worth Public Library locations. Located at 100 Energy Way in Downtown Fort Worth, the old Pier One Imports building will be refurbished to house a new Council Chamber as well as other City service departments. Mayor Parker says it will become a living room for every resident of Fort Worth, and will feature the work of local artists.

Dallas residents have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to revitalize Fair Park and expand the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD), two of the biggest attractions for travel and tourism, when they cast their ballots on Nov. 8 for the $1.5 billion initiative.
