We can feel it, can’t we?

To pretend that this does not move through us would be dishonest. But the deeper question, the one we are here to live, is this:

The tightening across our chests when another headline breaks. The heat that rises up our spines when the Epstein files surface again, initiating the familiar choreography of evasion, protection, and institutional amnesia. Our collective nervous system jolts between outrage and exhaustion. There is a quiet, simmering recognition that something is not only broken, but structurally designed to protect itself. There is righteous and true anger in the field right now, fueling our clarity of sight. We know the ravages of abuse when we see it. We know what corruption tastes like; we can feel it in the marrow of our bones. It is a revolting insult to watch those who appear like cartel heads posturing in the White House, insulated from accountability as we ordinary people carry the cost.

How do we continue to walk as love in a world that feels this unjust?

And I do not mean the diluted, bypassing version of love that rushes to forgiveness before truth has even been spoken. I do not mean collapsing into niceness. I do not mean spiritualizing harm. I mean: how do we remain human when the structures around us seem to have wholly forgotten what humanity is? I know the temptation is real: to harden, to become sharp, to let hatred feel like power, to let retribution feel like justice, and to let the heart calcify in the name of being “right.”

And yet.

Love, in an unjust world, does not look like acquiescence or passive acceptance. It does not look like sitting quietly while vile hypocrisy parades itself as governance.

Where will we no longer put our money? Where will we withdraw our attention?

What systems will we stop propping up with our silence? Where will we say no ... not from hatred, but from clarity?

This is about alignment and integrity.

The ancient Egyptians named this alignment through Ma'at: She who holds the principle of cosmic order, of truth that precedes and outlives any earthly law. Ma’at is the quiet, immovable architecture of what is real. She holds the feather against which the human heart is weighed.

This is the question I keep returning to: Is my heart becoming heavier with hatred, or lighter with truth?

Because part of the game plan ... and we must be clear about this: is division. If we are fighting one another, projecting our fear sideways, demonizing across every fault line, then the larger architecture of corruption remains undisturbed. We are easier to fracture when we are fragmented from each other. Love in an unjust world is not naïve unity. It is courageous reaching. It is asking, even across differences, where we still share a core recognition of harm. It is remembering that our shared humanity is older than any political allegiance. This is where we as priestesses come in, as the ones who hold the center when the field is volatile. We stand as those who refuse to abandon our hearts even while we draw clear boundaries. We are the ones who can say, with our spines and softness intertwined, NOT ON MY WATCH — and mean it.

When we each feel our outrage without letting it colonize our nervous systems, we bring love to the world. When we grieve the exposure of abuse without losing the capacity to see one another as human, we bring love to the world. When we act — to organize, to withdraw consent, to speak — without poisoning our own bloodstream with hatred, we bring love to the world.

We are not powerless. We are far more powerful than we have been conditioned to believe.

We choose where our resources flow. We choose what we amplify. We choose who we stand beside.

We choose when to refuse. We choose when to gather. And perhaps most importantly, we choose the quality of our own interior.

This month in Temple Echoes, we are not asking you to be softer. We are asking you to be truer. To let love mature beyond sentiment into something steadier, more discerning, more sovereign. To let love become justice embodied — not outsourced, not idealized, but lived.

May our anger refine us rather than corrode us. May our boundaries be clean. May our refusals be coherent. May our reaching be courageous. And may our hearts, when weighed against the feather, be found aligned with truth.

When Ereshkigal Wakes

Something ancient has been awakened. It is powerful, alive, and moving inside all of us.

Our collective feminine rage — the nausea, the heat in our wombs, the tightening of our throats, the sense that we cannot unsee this — is what’s needed to meet this moment.

Recently, as I sat preparing for a class I am teaching on Ereshkigal, Queen of the Underworld, I became aware of her rising within me — and in all of us.

She is the one yelling and screaming inside our bodies; she is the one pounding at the gates. She is the one who has carried the weight of the repulsive shadow of patriarchy for far too long, holding what could not be spoken, what was buried, what was never witnessed.

Now, she is rising. Through you, sister, and through me.

The Epstein files did not create this eruption; they broke a seal. They exposed, once again, a truth many of us have carried catastrophically in our bodies for aeons: that there are systems designed to protect power rather than life; that perpetrators are shielded while victims are named; that justice is endlessly delayed, diluted, or redacted.

For many of us, this isn’t shock; it’s a sickening recognition. And this recognition lives in our bodies.

I feel it in myself, and I hear it everywhere — in late- night conversations, in messages from women I’ve known for decades and women I’ve never met, in the collective tightening and trembling that says: something buried is no longer willing to stay buried. On a mythic level, this is what happens when the underworld is ignored for too long. What is buried does not disappear. It accumulates pressure. It begins to scream. Ereshkigal is not monstrous. She is out of her mind with rage and anguish because she has been left alone with it all for so long. THE UNDERWORLD SPEAKS In the ancient Sumerian myth, Ereshkigal rules the underworld, the realm of grief, trauma, rage, death, and all that has been exiled from the upper world of appearances and order. She is not the opposite of life; she is what life refuses to look at. When Inanna, Queen of the Heavens, descends, she is stripped at each gate of all her worldly status, until she stands naked before her sister, without protection. Ereshkigal does not welcome her. She does not soften. She turns her gaze on her and screams wildly in such intensity that it kills Inanna. While Inanna hangs lifeless on the hook, Ereshkigal goes into violent labor, screaming, convulsing, raging with a pain that has no witness and no release. This is where the myth stops being ancient and becomes uncomfortably and potently current. Because nothing can calm Ereshkigal’s rage, not denial, not control, not avoidance. The only thing that can make any difference is the arrival of a witnessing presence.

WHEN ERESHKIGAL WAKES

Two small beings enter the underworld. They do not come to fix, explain, or spiritualize what is happening. They come with something that has been absent for centuries: the willingness to listen without turning away. They sit with Ereshkigal as she speaks of her intense agony, and of the entire ancient storyline she carries in her body. The long history of violation: power taken without consequence, voices dismissed, bodies used and discarded, pain buried so life above ground could continue uninterrupted.

These two figures do not interrupt her or tell her to stop being hysterical; they do not require her pain to be palatable, provable, or resolved.

They allow everything to be spoken — the grotesque, the repetitive, the ancient — until nothing remains unsaid. Until the ghastly cauldron of pain is emptied.

And as they listen, they mirror her cries, with deep, embodied compassion that says: “ Yes. This happened. Yes. This is real. Yes. This should never have been carried alone.”

This is love as witnessing. A witnessing that allows truth to move through our nervous systems without collapsing or armoring, and to be changed by what we hear rather than rushing to manage it.

It is only here that something finally shifts; the pain is received, not explained away.

WHEN ERESHKIGAL WAKES

Finally, Ereshkigal is not alone with her story. Her rage does not need to tear the world apart to be known. Love is felt as the profound relief of being met fully, without condition, inside the truth.

ERESHKIGAL SPEAKS I have been here the whole time.

I am the place where what was not witnessed or held went. I am the weight of pain and suffering that no one cared to listen to. I am the scream that had no ear to receive it.

I hold the stories you were told were too much. I hold the moments you were asked to forget in order to survive. I am all that disappeared because no one believed it or wanted to see it.

I am rising now with such power because I was never allowed to speak.

You feel me now in the memories surfacing without permission. This is not madness. This is memory returning.

Do you know what love feels like to me?

WHEN ERESHKIGAL WAKES

It is not the hand that seeks to rescue me from the underworld. It is the one who comes and sits beside me, with no expectation that I should be any different, that I should calm down or be palatable. Love is the one who listens without needing my story to change. Love is the one who does not flinch when the truth becomes too much. Love is the one who keeps their feet on the ground and their heart open at the same time. When you witness me like this, my rage softens, because it has been received. My grief loosens, because it is held. Witness me, and I will not tear the world apart. Witness me, and what I carry can finally move. Witness me, and life can return. ERESHKIGAL RISING Ereskigal is living within each one of us right now. She is rising and calling forth a kind of love most of us were never taught — a love that does not fix, soothe, or explain, but that stays present without needing the experience in front of it to change. A love that is strong enough to remain rooted while another person’s truth moves through the room in its full weight.

Bearing witness is how we love in the face of injustice.

Practice: Before you head out into the world, select your favorite oil to anoint yourself with. This will act as a protective barrier and shield of light around you. Put a few drops of the oil in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together, deeply inhaling the scent. Frame your head and body with your hands, allowing the essence of the oil to create an auric field around you. If you don’t have the capacity, what can you do to feel restored? Ask: What does my heart need in this moment? 50

When you arrive home, leave something (even metaphorically) in the container as a ritual for crossing the threshold, letting go of what is done for the day and no longer yours to carry. Alternatively, this container could live inside your mind’s eye. Put all of your feelings and worries inside of the box and close it before falling asleep.

call your power back reclaim your energy

Practice: Before you fall asleep, close down your eyes and envision all your energy flowing back to you from wherever it may have gone throughout the day. You can also do this anytime throughout the day when you feel scattered. Visualize your power as brilliant beams of light, returning to you from any past situation. Repeat this mantra from priestess Marcella Kroll: “I call my power back from anyone or anything I gave it to. Knowingly or unknowingly. Consciously or unconsciously. From all dimensions and directions, throughout all time and space.”

Love brings tears to the eyes By Kahuna Leilani

TEARS ARE BUNDLES OF LOVE

I feel the call of the land of Hawai’i nei deep within my body and soul.

Her tradewinds blow through my long, dark brown hair, whispering voices of the ancestors into my ears. I listen carefully as a child listens to those sacred ones who lived in our native land not so long ago. I play amongst the waves of Her womb waters with the animals of the sea, tasting Her salty fluids upon my lips as I dive down to the ocean floor, feeling the familiar touch of Her sands between my fingers. I see Her palm trees sway, and am reminded of the hula I love to dance. My hips mimic the wind, gently blowing through the trees and leaves side to side.

Her mountains, so lush and green, stand proudly against the clouded sky.

Waterfalls flow down Her crevices, creating a mystic spray as waterfall meets mountain pool. This is the land I know as home, not island paradise. The place where I am one with my brown-skinned sisters and brothers. I am in awe of Her, the Land, the aina.

Tears stream down my cheeks, and I taste the salt of my own fluids upon my lips.

I love these islands so much, I feel an ache in my heart whenever it is time for us to part.

Her voice comforts me: “You take the spirit, the mana , the Aloha of the Aina /Land with you, baby, wherever you go. The mana of this land is part of you, baby, and where you go, it goes. It lives inside of you. You’re welcome to come here whenever you wish.
