Harsh Family Greetings Friends and Valued Customers,
Dusty Prairie Ranch
We welcome you to our 45 th Annual Production Sale and we couldn’t be more excited for the genetic offering! Reviewing the 2025 sale catalog write up to what our message is this year is nearly identical. Our dedicated philosophy is breeding cattle to produce the most optimal female where her productivity generates a profit in EVERY sector of the beef business! As the cattle market has rallied, we are seeing advertising that you should select for this or should buy a specific bloodline for the next wave of herd rebuilding. My question is, “Do we really?”. Or are those advertisements just keying us to spend your profits where you are buying traits with unproven bloodlines? We favor the later and leads me into the how we are building the next generation at DPR. Our breeding philosophy of controlled line breeding is not popular across the seedstock industry. The practical norm for breeders are constantly preaching outcross, outcross and outcross! Outcrossing is great for those looking for maximizing “random gene combination”. But an outcrossing program creates no consistency as you have millions of possible outcomes and no predictability across traits. The flip side to that with a controlled line breeding program has positively enhanced our potency for consistency in your operation! Doing some deep genetic research of the bulls in our offering, there are 5 bulls that trace back to the prevalent DPR Miss Thick 320 cow three times in their pedigree! The dam of DPR Solution 9320 and the granddam of DPR Justify 3258 . Of those 5 bulls, the average lot is 12.5 which is 163% further up in the pecking order than the average! This is just a quick snapshot of superior results from stacking pedigrees with productive traits and ultimately elevated them to the top! Reading all of that can be a bit overwhelming, but for our own cowherd it has already made it’s impact! For the 2025 calving season, we hit nearly 75% calved first cycle and pushed our average weaning weight 20 pounds more than the 5 year running average! Our depth of rib, foot quality and structural soundness has continually improved. Our disposition and udder quality has taken another step forward. So, as we see it in our own cows, it is exciting to see the results transition into your own cowherd! In preparation of the 45 th Annual Production Sale , we look forward to showcasing the next generation of genetics! We regularly recommend customers to purchase 1/2 brothers and in our continued breeding philosophy, we have taken the next step of providing predictable genetics with several 5/8 and 3/4 brothers! Pair these brothers up and next calving season, you’ll be glad you did! As usual order, the videos of the bulls will be posted on DV Auction 10 days prior to the sale ! We also welcome you to the Friday night Ranch Tour and Social on April 3 r d . Followed with the sale on Saturday, April 4 th where lunch will be served at noon and sale to follow at 1:30! We look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your operation in 2026!
