The crew of Sweetgrass Veterinary Services and myself are excited to welcome everyone to the 2026 Wulf Cattle Opportunity Sale! We take great pride in continuing to perform the herd health preparation for the sale. I’d like to thank Emily, Luke, Kayla, Maddy, Amy, Jessica and Porter for their dedication and hard work this time of year when calving and production sale seasons collide! Several days were spent performing breeding soundness exams which included evaluation of semen motility and morphology, scrotal measurements, hip heights, and visual examination of hoof and leg conformation. To reduce stress and times through the chute, yearling bulls were also carcass ultrasounded by CUP Lab certified tech Jeff Schoenfelder at the time of the breeding exam. All sale animals have received vaccinations for IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV, Lepto, Vibrio, Clostridial diseases and poured to control external and internal parasites. In addition, heifers have also received their Brucellosis vaccination. Administration of magnets are given to both bulls and heifers for the prevention of hardware disease. Wulf Cattle tests all breeding stock for Johne’s Disease and has a zero tolerance for positive tests. These animals and their offspring are removed from the breeding herd to insure the future health of your herd. We will be readily available on sale day and can be reached by email at vet@sweetgrassvets.com or at (605) 928-8387 anytime. We will be issuing electronic official health papers for lots sold outside of Nebraska the day of the sale. To assist us in this process, please provide your email and the physical address of where the cattle will be delivered to when you sign up for a bidder number, please refrain from using P.O. Box numbers. You may also find it convenient to download the MyVetLINK app to see your health documents as they are created. In good practice, we do encourage a 3-week quarantine period before contact with your herd to allow them to get over the high-risk time after the stress of transportation and to work with your local veterinarian in preparing your bull for breeding by repeating a
Cattlemen, It is with great excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to the 38th Annual Opportunity Sale! This year’s sale will be Online Only on April 2nd and the Open House will be held the week prior on March 24 th & 25 th at Sandy Ridge Ranch, Atkinson, Nebraska. My excitement stems from the unprecedented demand that we have been experiencing for our product. Supplies are low and demand is high, which is resulting in favorable prices for every class of cattle. The records continue to be broken on a regular basis. The demand for high quality beef looks to stay strong and expansion of today’s cow herd is slow, resulting in strong markets for the foreseeable future. My anticipation is that you will appreciate the growth and quality of this year’s offering. We continue to strive to produce genetics that will add pounds to your calves, make efficient feedlot animals and ultimately hang carcasses with a high lean meat yield coupled with exceptional quality grade. Whether you are in the market for a new sire for your registered breeding herd, multiple bulls for your progressive commercial operation, or replacement females to rebuild your herd, we have them all available on the Opportunity Sale. Features that you can always find in Wulf Cattle genetics: n Complete data collection (Recorded with NALF) Weight traits & measurements taken in large contemporary groups Carcass ultrasounds (EZ Ultrasound) Majority of bulls feed efficiency tested (Vytelle) All genomic enhanced EPDs (Neogen) Actual carcass data & production records used to develop genetics Customers receive carcass data on calves fed in our program (Telus Ag) n Breeding soundness exams (Sweetgrass Veterinary Services) Semen tested Scrotal measurements Physical soundness evaluation n Free nationwide delivery to central points n Sight unseen purchasing Genetics specifically selected to fit your program Complete satisfaction guaranteed Plan to join us for lunch and to visit about this year’s offering at the Open House. Then tune in to Superior Livestock, DV Auction or leave your orders with me or any of the sales team to bid on your selections on April 2 nd . If you have any questions about the offering, please give me a call. Dear Friends & Fellow Cattlemen, It will continue to be a great time to be in the beef cattle business. Over the past several years, we have seen cattle values across all classes reach historically high levels. While moisture patterns remain varied across the country, the national cow herd is still at historically low numbers. Any meaningful expansion will take time, and that should continue to support cattle prices. If beef demand remains as resilient as it has been, the industry appears positioned to maintain favorable market conditions for the foreseeable future. Today’s market dynamics have shifted how cattle are being fed and marketed. With high fed and feeder cattle prices, cattle are being fed to heavier finishing weights, and the premiums traditionally associated with natural programs have not kept pace with the current conventional market. As a result, our focus now is to maximize performance, efficiency, and end product value in a conventional system. For our bull customers, this reinforces what matters most: cattle that grow fast, convert feed efficiently, and excel on the rail under real world feeding conditions. Genetic progress remains a top priority, and we continue to see meaningful year over year improvement. Our expanding database, which adds thousands of new records annually, drives selection decisions and advances genetic progress. A major step forward has been the continued expansion of feed intake systems at Sandy Ridge Ranch as well as our Minnesota feedyard. We now capture feed intake data on our entire registered calf crop—including bulls, replacement heifers, and pedigreed finished cattle. Going forward, we will be capturing 5,000 more feed intake records annually from our known sired BeefBuilders. Wulf Cattle remains the industry leader with feed intake and carcass data, giving our customers unmatched confidence in genetic predictability. Another important development is the continued adoption of the NALF Terminal Profit Index (TPI). This index has replaced NALF’s former MTI index as well as our own Wulf Cattle indexes we previously published. Because TPI incorporates the true economic value of each trait and weights them according to real world relevance, we believe it is a major step forward as a selec- tion tool. We have extensively modeled TPI against our own fed cattle and carcass data and found strong alignment with actual profit outcomes. Simply put, it works. We look forward to hosting you at our Open House and educational seminar on March 24th and 25th. We encourage you to come view the bulls, visit with our team, and exchange ideas with fellow cattlemen. Our online bull sale will follow on Thursday, April 2nd, allowing you to participate from wherever you are. Thank you for your continued confidence in Wulf Cattle Genetics. Kind Regards, Jerry Wulf
