Dear Friends & Fellow Cattlemen, It will continue to be a great time to be in the beef cattle business. Over the past several years, we have seen cattle values across all classes reach historically high levels. While moisture patterns remain varied across the country, the national cow herd is still at historically low numbers. Any meaningful expansion will take time, and that should continue to support cattle prices. If beef demand remains as resilient as it has been, the industry appears positioned to maintain favorable market conditions for the foreseeable future. Today’s market dynamics have shifted how cattle are being fed and marketed. With high fed and feeder cattle prices, cattle are being fed to heavier finishing weights, and the premiums traditionally associated with natural programs have not kept pace with the current conventional market. As a result, our focus now is to maximize performance, efficiency, and end product value in a conventional system. For our bull customers, this reinforces what matters most: cattle that grow fast, convert feed efficiently, and excel on the rail under real world feeding conditions. Genetic progress remains a top priority, and we continue to see meaningful year over year improvement. Our expanding database, which adds thousands of new records annually, drives selection decisions and advances genetic progress. A major step forward has been the continued expansion of feed intake systems at Sandy Ridge Ranch as well as our Minnesota feedyard. We now capture feed intake data on our entire registered calf crop—including bulls, replacement heifers, and pedigreed finished cattle. Going forward, we will be capturing 5,000 more feed intake records annually from our known sired BeefBuilders. Wulf Cattle remains the industry leader with feed intake and carcass data, giving our customers unmatched confidence in genetic predictability. Another important development is the continued adoption of the NALF Terminal Profit Index (TPI). This index has replaced NALF’s former MTI index as well as our own Wulf Cattle indexes we previously published. Because TPI incorporates the true economic value of each trait and weights them according to real world relevance, we believe it is a major step forward as a selec- tion tool. We have extensively modeled TPI against our own fed cattle and carcass data and found strong alignment with actual profit outcomes. Simply put, it works. We look forward to hosting you at our Open House and educational seminar on March 24th and 25th. We encourage you to come view the bulls, visit with our team, and exchange ideas with fellow cattlemen. Our online bull sale will follow on Thursday, April 2nd, allowing you to participate from wherever you are. Thank you for your continued confidence in Wulf Cattle Genetics. Kind Regards, Jerry Wulf
