The working salt farm produces a special 900-year-old deep sea salt not found anywhere else in the world, as it is a biproduct of the saltwater pumped up from 2,200-feet below the surface. The Global Conveyor Belt of ocean currents delivers the nutrient-rich water from Greenland directly to the coast of Hawaii Island, free of surface pollutants. Salt is significant in Hawaiian traditions—used in ceremonial blessings, the blessing of voyaging canoes, and to preserve and purify—and marks a great way to bless your new journey together. You can also harvest or select your own salt to give as favors. If you are looking for a memorable, picturesque venue different from the usual resort setting (yet close enough to nearby hotels and the town of Kailua-Kona for your guests), the Kona Salt Farm may be for you. The site is blessed with spectacular sunsets where the natural landscape of lava rock and fountain grass meet the ocean. The farm is rented as venue space, leaving you the option to create the event of your dreams with any caterer, music, or food truck you desire.
