T he highways and streets around Springfield, Missouri, came alive the morning of Friday, May 23, as the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds opened the gates for the 42nd Mid-America Street Rod Nationals. Rumbling works of passion, love and talent rolled in and the following three days were a showcase of fantastic cars and enthusiastic owners and spectators enjoying 30-year-and-older works of automobile art. Participants registered for the event at the Host Double Tree Hotel with the help of Lynn Adams, Sheri Vaughn, Sandy Kerr, Lollie Krogmeier and Melinda Johnson, along with Host Club, the Pharoahs Car Club, and volunteers from the Springfield CVB. To show off some of the local talent Bret Chrismer led those interested to VL Classics in Springfield where the opportunity to buy the classic car of your dreams exists, and Rust2Rodz down the road in Marshfield fulfilling others’ dreams. The Battlefield Mall was just a short bus ride away for others who dreamed of shopping. “All Couped Up Hot Rods” was in the limelight as the “Spotlight Builder” for this year’s event.
