doctrine and Scripture, which they pretend to be the word of God. They also call them selves “ The Church of Jesus Christ of Lat ter-Day Saints." There are 300,000 Mormons in the United States, besides “ churches” and missions in Canada, Europe and elsewhere. They con trol the State of Utah, and by votes and money influence the government of other states and even the national Congress itselt. They are both a disgrace and danger to our country as well as to true religion. 2. Mormonism. The Mormons teach shameful and wick ed things of God and our blessed Lord. We know there is but one God, they say that there are many. Jesus taught, “ God is a Spirit," they that He is only a greater man, and that all men may become gods by becoming Mormons, and marrying many women. But they often talk very smooth and very Christian, and so deceive many. They will lie to make converts. They teach that none can ibe saved but Mor mons, unless a Mormon is “ baptized” for them. 3. Why Send Missionaries to Them? (1) They are as needy of the Gospel as any heathen. (2) Their missionaries are everywhere making Mormons and we must counteract them. (3) Most of the Mormons are ignorant and deceived and we should pity them. (4) They are dangerous citizens and de termined to rule the land. (5) There is only one Name whereby all must be saved (Acts 4:12). ( 6 ) Jesus said, “ Go ye into all the world” (Matt. 28:19, 20), and that includes our own land. Sunday, April 5 The Beatitudes, IV . Tell the story of the sinking of the Titanic, and how they played and sang “Nearer, My God, to Thee,” when the ship went down. There is a story, beautiful and true, of a'ship the lookout of which saw a distant speck upon the ocean; nearer approach showed it to be a floating spar; still nearer they came to it and they could see a human form clinging to it. A boat was sent, and when they came nearer still they saw it was a woman and she was singing, “Jesus, Lover of M y Soul," just a speck on the lonely,- boundless waters, but singing her song of salvation, and clinging to her unseen but all-seeing Saviour.
