From the General Manager's Desk A Heartfelt Thank You for an Incredible 2024
As we look back on the second half of 2024, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for your hard work, dedication, and exceptional contributions to Shangri-La and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi. Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated milestones, and upheld the values that make us proud to be part of the Shangri-La family. Your commitment to service excellence, driving business results, and teamwork has been truly remarkable. Every department, every team, and each colleague has played an essential role in making our hotel an outstanding place for both our guests and colleagues. Reflecting on our significant milestones, we gathered for the Long Service Gala Dinner and Annual Colleagues' Party , celebrating the dedication of those who have been with us through the years. It was a proud moment to honour their contributions in making our workplace stronger and more vibrant. We also celebrated Sofra bld winning the Best Brunch Award at the Fact Dining Awards 2024 —a testament to the excellence and innovation that define our F&B and Culinary teams. Another key highlight was Shangri-La’s Leadership Transformation Workshop , where the Executive Committee and Department Heads participated in an insightful and engaging session with Gaurav Bhatkar, Director of Learning & Development (MEIA). We also celebrated Negroni Week in style, showcasing the art of mixology and bringing together renowned bartenders from around the globe. Our Mixology Center of Excellence , curated by Sanjin Dilaver, MEIA Master Mixologist and Assistant Director of F&B, offered attendees a unique opportunity to learn from a star- studded lineup featuring talent from celebrated bars such as Alquimico, The Bombay Canteen, Hope & Sesame, and SĀN YǑU. Beyond these milestones, our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives has remained strong. From sustainability programs to community engagement, our teams have worked to make a positive impact, reinforcing our responsibility toward a better future. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation for your unwavering passion, which truly embodies the spirit of Shangri-La. We are more than just a team—we are a family, and I am incredibly proud to work alongside each and every one of you. Let us continue to support one another as we move forward toward even greater success. Thank you once again for everything you have done. Colleague Appreciation Week During Colleague Appreciation Week, we embraced the opportunity to celebrate and appreciate everyone . Throughout the week, our team enjoyed exclusive dining experiences, engaging activities, and team-building games that fostered stronger connections and recognized each colleague’s contributions. Clarita Mejias and Estela Dumanot: Shangri- La Abu Dhabi’s Stars at the 2024 BMW Berlin Marathon The 2024 BMW Berlin Marathon , held on September 29, marked its 50th anniversary with exceptional performances and a record-breaking turnout. A total of 58,212 runners from 161 countries participated, setting a new participation record for the event. We are incredibly proud to highlight the achievements of two of our colleagues from Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi who took part in this iconic event: Clarita Mejias from Human Resources and Estela Dumanot from Housekeeping . Their dedication to fitness and personal challenges was on full display as they represented our team at this global sporting event. Clarita and Estela took on the full 42 km marathon , tackling the challenging course that wove through Berlin’s most iconic landmarks. From the majestic Brandenburg Gate to the lively Alexanderplatz, the picturesque Tiergarten, and the historic Unter den Linden, the marathon route provided a stunning mix of Berlin’s rich history and modernity. Despite the challenges, Clarita and Estela’s perseverance and determination shone through as they pushed forward to complete the race. Their participation in the 2024 BMW Berlin Marathon is a true reflection of their strength, resilience, and the spirit of excellence we hold dear at Shangri-La Abu Dhabi. We are inspired by their achievements and congratulate them both for representing our team in such an incredible way.

We kicked off the celebration with a delightful cake-cutting ceremony at the Lobby Lounge, where we were honored to have our Polaris member, Mr. Then Hiné Chin, join us. The celebration continued with a specially curated lunch at the colleague restaurant.
It was a memorable occasion, reflecting the continued success and dedication of Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi.
We organized a complimentary health check-up for our colleagues at SLAD and THAD in collaboration with Ahalia Medical Group. This comprehensive screening included Ayurveda consultations, dietitian consultations, BMI assessments, eye screenings, and physician consultations. We are pleased to have supported the well- being of 132 colleagues through this initiative.

Diwali Celebration A Festival of Lights and Unity
The Diwali celebration at SLAD and THAD Colleagues Accommodation was a vibrant and joyful event. Colleagues gathered to celebrate the " festival of lights ," enjoying traditional Indian dishes, a Rangoli competition, and the presence of management team members. The evening concluded with fun games, fireworks, and dancing, making it a celebration of togetherness and cultural diversity .
Shang Dragon Triumphs Dragon Boat Festival
We proudly hosted the annual Abu Dhabi Dragon Boat Festival 2024 at Shangri- La Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi, at the Plaza Beach Area. Once again, the Shang Dragon team has risen to the occasion. A huge congratulations to everyone for their teamwork, dedication, and hard work, which led to the BRONZE AWARD in the CORPORATE CUP . We would also like to acknowledge Ruwan Silva from the Health Club and Recreation for his special participation in the Stand-Up Paddle event, one of the first internationally endorsed events of its kind in Abu Dhabi. Thank you to all participants for making this event a memorable success. We look forward to more milestones and achievements together.

Evening with the Stars Celebrating Long Service and Dedication
We hosted our annual Long Service Award Gala Dinner , “Evening with the Stars,” to celebrate the dedication of our exceptional colleagues. This event reflects Shangri-La’s deep appreciation for their loyalty and hard work. 68 colleagues were honored with certificates, long service pins, and cash rewards for their 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of service . They were recognized not only for their tenure but also for their unwavering commitment to Shangri-La’s success. The ceremony featured a gala dinner, speeches from our leadership, live music, and dance performances. This day marked a significant milestone in their careers—a decade of dedication, growth, and achievement. We look forward to many more years of shared success and growth together.
Annual Colleagues' Party A Retro Celebration We had a fantastic time celebrating our Annual Colleagues' Party 2024 with a fun " Back to the Retro Era " theme! The evening was filled with excitement, from a thrilling lucky draw and lively departmental dance performances to a stylish fashion show that crowned the Retro Queen and King . The DJ kept the energy high, and everyone enjoyed a delicious spread of international street cuisine. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our colleagues for their enthusiasm, creativity, and participation, which made this event a grand success.
Fact Dining Award Sofra bld Wins Best Brunch
We are excited to announce that the 'Gardens of Babylon' Brunch at Sofra bld won Best Brunch in Abu Dhabi at the recently held Fact Dining Awards 2024 ! A heartfelt thank you to all our guests and colleagues for making this achievement possible.
We celebrated UAE Flag Day, honoring the unity, heritage, and resilience of the United Arab Emirates. Standing together as one, we reflect on the pride and progress that the UAE flag represents for everyone Proudly raising the nation's colours high!
Sustainability Initiatives
Pink October The Shangri-La and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi, participated in the 13th Annual ADCB Zayed Sports City Pink Run , continuing our commitment to raising awareness for Breast Cancer. Proceeds from the run were donated to the Al Jalila Foundation for Breast Cancer Initiatives . Our colleagues had the opportunity to interact with runners and walkers of all abilities during the 3km, 5km, and 10km categories held on October 26, 2024, at Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi.
At SLAD and THAD, we believe in "Doing Good" by acting with integrity, care, and sustainability. We collaborated with the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) to operate responsibly and support environmental initiatives. Through EEG's recycling campaigns and nationwide projects for sustainable development and environmental protection in the UAE, we have demonstrated our commitment to promoting positive change in our community. As part of the "One Root One Communi-tree " (OROC) campaign, we collected 2,315 kg of paper, 90 kg of plastic, 35 kg of cans, and 100 mobile phones as part of the Green Call Project .
ESG Initiatives with Emirates Environmental Group
Having reached our collection drive target, we are thrilled to announce that we will plant indigenous trees under the name of SLAD & THAD. This tree-planting event, held under the slogan "For Our Emirates We Plant," will take place in December 2024.

Book Fair & Fun Day
SLAD and THAD proudly supported the Book Fair and Fun Day hosted by Smart Leaders Nursery on October 16, 2024. The event showcased a variety of children’s books, fostering a love for reading, learning, and creativity. We added a special touch by providing delicious cakes and pastries for the children and attendees. Interactive learning sessions and creative workshops made the day exciting, sparking young imaginations in a welcoming environment. We are honored to partner with Smart Leaders Nursery in celebrating the joys of life.
International Coastal Cleanup Day
On September 20, 2024, SLAD and THAD colleagues joined a beach clean-up at our hotel’s beachfront to mark International Coastal Cleanup Day, emphasizing ocean and marine life protection.
Over 81 volunteers, including the Housekeeping team during International Housekeeping Week, championed our ESG initiative and sustainability goals. Thank you to everyone who participated in this meaningful cause and inspired others to protect our oceans!
On World Children’s Day, we at SLAD and THAD came together to celebrate Little Hearts at the Salma Children's Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation Hospital, Abu Dhabi . Our dedicated volunteers organized engaging activities and connected warmly with the children, their parents and the hospital staff. To add a touch of joy, we brought an assortment of special treats from the hotel, including cupcakes, pastries and cake sharing smiles and love with everyone. This heartfelt initiative allowed us to express our gratitude and support for the children and the healthcare heroes at Salma Hospital. Shangri-La and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi, proudly participated in the "For Our Emirates We Plant" campaign on December 17, 2024. Through EEG’s recycling programs, we collected 2,315 kg of paper, 90 kg of plastic, 35 kg of cans, and 100 mobile phones. This contributed to planting 15,881 Samar trees, alongside over 1,500 participants, supporting the UAE’s green initiatives. The Executive Committee and Department Heads of SLAD and THAD participated in Shangri-La’s Leadership Transformation Workshop with Gaurav Bhatkar, Director of Learning & Development (MEIA), on November 5 and 6, 2024. The 1.5-day workshop aligned the leadership team with brand transformation initiatives while incorporating fun-filled activities focused on achieving smart and achievable results.
Sales Performance Workshop
SLAD and THAD recently hosted a Sales Performance Workshop in collaboration with Capital Connection , aimed at empowering the Sales, Events, Customer Sales, and F&B teams. Over the course of two days, the workshop, facilitated by Arnaud Giacometti, focused on essential strategies to drive prospecting success and establish meaningful connections with new, qualified clients. This engaging workshop emphasized achieving outcomes , delivering business results , and strengthening client relationships . It provided invaluable insights for continued success. The knowledge and strategies gained will empower the team to achieve greater results and drive sustained growth in the future.
