YEAR 10 ARTS ELECTIVES

VISUAL ART

In a studio environment, students plan and create a range of artworks across different mediums and, through this, develop a personal art style. They use a variety of techniques and processes. Additionally, students develop skills in responding to the Arts through analysing selected artworks from different periods from major twentieth century Art movements. Assessment includes a folio of artworks with accompanying visual diary that shows their process, and an end of unit extended written analysis with an emphasis on skill development.

DRAMA

Students develop different roles and characters to realise dramatic intentions and engage audiences. They perform devised and scripted drama in different forms, styles and performance spaces. They plan, direct, produce, rehearse and refine performances. They select and use the elements of drama, narrative and structure in directing and acting and apply stagecraft such as costume, makeup and lighting. Students analyse and evaluate meaning and aesthetic effect in drama they devise and view. Participation in a school production is vital to successful completion of this subject. This may take the form of cast or crew.

DANCE

Students develop an ability to create complex choreography that communicates a theme, story or idea. They use the elements of dance and choreographic devices to help communicate ideas. Students learn technique and choreography from a variety of styles and have an opportunity to perform in a showcase. Students analyse a professional dance piece identifying the use of the elements of dance, choreographic devices and production elements to communicate expressive intention. Students develop an understanding of human anatomy and best practice for dancers to avoid injury.
