A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
This week Year 7 designed a “Candle of Remembrance” as a follow up activity during tutor time to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The candle is a symbol of hope, light, and remembrance. As well as creating some lovely designs, students included words or images that expressed empathy and peace. Well done to the Year 7 Basketball team who won their second match at home against Hampton High on Monday. Please see the sports section for the full match report. We look forward to sharing news next week about how the Year 7 Netball team played in their friendly fixture against RPA. Well done to the top 3 tutor groups who have achieved the most epraise during the last seven days; 1st 7SDE, 2nd 7FLY, 3rd 7EEL. A further well done to the top three students on the individual leader board from the last 7 days: 1st Hannah L 7SDE, 2nd Eva M 7EEL, 3rd Sio D 7SDE Next Thursday is the Year 7 Bake Off competition, we wish all the form entrants good luck. I can’t wait to sample some of their cupcakes! On Friday next week the Richmond School Sport Partnership swim- ming gala takes place, good luck to the Year 7 swimming team.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘My name is Mina’ by David Almond
In the form of a journal, this book is a prequel for the book Skellig, and focuses on the character Mina before she has met Michael and Skellig. It focuses on her troubles with school and family and shines a light on her creativity. It is a fun, but serious book all at the same time and has many different forms of creativity like poetry and made-up stories. Overall, it’s a very personal and emotive tale, with lots of much needed honesty about school and the stories that are missed of kids who struggle in school. - Isabelle H, Y11
