A Message from the Chair of Governors
Leandro’s chapter: Writing a bright future
It is my great pleasure to introduce this year’s Bursary Appeal. As an Old Alleynian myself, I have had the privilege to be a part of the Dulwich community for the last 50 years
“Being on a bursary gave me the opportunity to experience a lot of the things that I don’t think I would have been able to otherwise. As a boarder, I had a lot of structure and for me specifically, I had a family in the boarding house with my teachers, my housemaster, and other students. I don’t think I would have ever got that in another place.” Leandro Gough OA (2017-22)
as well as the unique opportunity to watch it grow, change and evolve. Our community has always been defined by equity, respect, and a shared belief in the transformative power of education. These values have guided us through the years, shaping the remarkable legacy we now celebrate. Launching this year’s Appeal is particularly meaningful to me, as I attended the College during the Dulwich Experiment era, when nearly 90% of our pupils were supported by bursaries. As Chair of Governors, I am both honoured and inspired to champion our ongoing commitment to expanding access to an outstanding education, ensuring that talented students from all backgrounds can benefit from the legacy of opportunity that has always been at the heart of Dulwich College. This bursary appeal is more than just a call for support—it is a celebration of who we are as a community. By coming together, we can help unlock the potential of future generations and ensure that our school remains a place where talent and ambition are nurtured, no matter a student’s starting point. I invite you to make your own contribution as we honour our past and, with your help, shape a brighter future for as many as we can.
Dr Adrian Carr OA (1973-80), Chair of Governors
