GRIMM IS GRINNING FROM THE GRAVE February 1-15 Based on the book by James Lapine, the musical production provides a different perspective on a number of the characters from classic tales created by the Brothers Grimm. Performances of Into the Woods continue at BIG Arts Herb Strauss Theater on Sanibel Island. Nightly show times are 8PM from February 1-15, Wednesday Matinee at 2PM on February 5, and Sunday Twilight Show at 4PM on February 9. Tickets are $42 for adults and $5 for students and children. A MESSAGE TO MANIPULATING MOMS February 7-23 The Beauty Queen of Leenane (winner of four Tony Awards) Connemara mountain community of County Galway. It depicts the events that follow lonely Maureen Folan’s first (and potentially last) chance to secure a loving relationship with someone other than her aging and manipulative mother Mag. The Beauty Queen will be performed by the troupe of Theatre Conspiracy at Alliance for the Arts Foulds Theatre in Fort Myers, at 8PM, February 7 -23. Matinee performance is 2PM on February 23. Affectionately known as Grandmother of the Everglades, Douglas authored The Everglades: River of Grass , a book that continues to be read and cherished by those dedicated to protecting this vital and sensitive eco- system. The performance will be staged at the Community House of Sanibel Island and will follow with a special luncheon, February 12, 9AM to 2PM. ONCE – WORTH WATCHING TWICE February 18-23 Once , a winner of eight Tony Awards in 2012 (including honors for best musical) features an ensemble of musicians and actors who share the story of a Dublin street performer preparing to abandon his professional dreams until a bonnie lass becomes infatuated with his love songs. Described as both emotionally captivating and theatrically breathtaking, Once demonstrates the power of music’s ability to connect all people. Once will be staged at Barbara B. Feb 18- 23 OBJECTIONS OVERRULED February 20-March 2 Varying opinions on class, religion, gender and race equality may often complicate life, but make for compelling courtroom drama in Defamation , a play by Todd Logan in which the audience ultimately determines the verdict of guilt or innocence. Who knew fulfilling jury duty could be so entertaining? The BIG Arts Herb Strauss Theater on Sanibel Island will stage performances February 20 through March 2.
