LOOKING FOR LOVE? March 7-April 5 Romance/Romance is a Tony Award-nominated production with lyrics by Barry Harman and music by Keith Herrmann. Romantic chords are compelled from the commingling of two separate one-act musicals respectively inspired by Arthur Schnitzler’s classic story, The Little Comedy , and Jules Renard’s modern play, Summer Share . Performances are at BIG Arts Herb Strauss Theater on Sanibel Island. The March 7 opening night reception begins at 7PM and follows by 8PM performance. Nightly show times are 8PM, March 8-29 and April 1-5. Sunday Twilight Show is 4PM on March 9, 16, 23 and 30. Wednesday Matinee is at 2PM on March 12 and 19. LOVE LETTERS March 10 BIG Arts Community Players present a reading of A. R. Gurney’s Love Letters , a play comprised of the correspondence exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but ultimately continued to share confidences. The actors read the evocative, touching and frequently funny, letters aloud. Love Letters was a finalist for the 1990 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Program is 7:30PM, March 10, at BIG Arts Herb Strauss Theatre on Sanibel. Tickets are $12 for adults and free for students and kids. March 11-16 War Horse , a production that saddled five Tony Awards in 2011, is a World War One era story of a young man’s attempt to reclaim his beloved horse after it’s sold to the English Calvary and sent to battle in France. A powerfully moving and imaginative drama, War Horse combines stirring music and phenomenal creativity in the application of life-sized puppets that bring galloping, charging horses to life at Barbara B. Mar 11- 16 Mar 10 HEAVILY ENTERTAINING March 14-23 The Whale, a play that has won numerous awards, shares the story of Charlie, a morbidly obese man of 600-pounds who since the death of his boyfriend, has remained confined to a small Idaho apartment where he’s eating himself to oblivion. With his health quickly failing, Charlie becomes desperate to reconnect with Ellie, the estranged and angry teenage daughter he hasn’t seen in 17 years, but would offer anything to reconnect. Presented by Theatre Conspiracy at the Alliance for the Arts Foulds Theatre in Fort Myers. Play opens at 8PM on March 14. Nightly performances continue through March 23. Tickets are $20.
