BEAUTIFUL BIRDS OF SANIBEL February 13 The Sanibel-Captiva Audubon Society presents Don and Lillian Stokes, the renowned photographers and authors on avian subjects who are also longtime winter residents of Sanibel Island. Presentation includes Lillian’s stunning photography that showcases the splendor of the bird species inhabiting Sanibel. The presentation takes place at Sanibel Community House, 7:30PM on February 13 (donations of $5.00 per person are suggested). politics, philosophy and economics, Edward Luce went on to earn appointments that include serving as the Washington Bureau Chief and South Asia Bureau Chief with the Financial Times. Tickets are $35, however series is sold out. In some cases, tickets can be purchased on night of lecture. Those so interested are encouraged to arrive early in the event of possible opening. Feb 16 LUCE LECTURES ON INDIA February 16 The Forum BIG Arts Distinguished Scholars graduating Oxford University with degrees in Lecture Series presents Edward Luce. After DISCUSSION FOR DECODING February 20 Brad Metzler, the New York Times bestselling author and braniac behind The History Channel’s broadcast of Brad Metzler’s Decoded , is sure to enthrall book lovers and conspiracy theorists alike during his appearance at the Sanibel Library Author Series. Metzler’s works of fiction includes The Inner Circle, The Tenth Justice, Dead Even, The First Counsel, The Zero Game, The Book of Fate and The Book of Lies . In his newest thriller, The Fifth Assassin , Metzler advances the idea that the killing of Presidents Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley and Kennedy were not orchestrated by assassins acting on their own twisted accord; rather these reflect a conspiracy by persons united in a plot that has permeated throughout the generations. February 20 Back by popular demand, the Sanibel-Captiva Audubon Society hosts Hicks for a presentation that doesn’t delve into their typical feathery flights of fancy, but rather focuses on the migration of other more celestial objects. In a presentation on comets and asteroids, Hicks will discuss the good, bad and the ugly characteristics of celestial bodies which have been prom- inent in recent news coverage and also offer insight as to whether or not life is on the brink of a global disaster (gulp). The presentation takes place at Sanibel Community House, 7:30PM on February 20 (dona- tions of $5.00 per person are suggested). CHARACTERISTICALLY CARSON February 21 Presented by The Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education, the Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture offers a one-woman performance by actress Kaiulani Lee. Entitled A Sense of Wonder , the program shares the story of Rachel Carson’s love of the natural world and her fight to defend it. The play is set in Carson’s cottage on the Maine coast shortly after the publication of Silent Spring where she is simultaneously battling the chemical industry, the government and the press to get her message to the American people. Staged at the BIG Arts Schein Performance Hall, the program will be followed by remarks and a reception in the Phillips Gallery, 7:30PM, February 21, 2014.
