The dress code for men appearing on the red car- pet at Hollywood award ceremonies has for decades championed the timeless elegance of immaculately tai- lored and subtly sophisticated tuxedos. And while film divas vied to be seen wearing the most extravagant and avant-garde couture-sourced gowns, their male colleagues generally all donned suits that are seem- ingly the same. However, that narrative has shifted in recent times. It started subtly – a lapel pin here, an unbuttoned silk shirt there – only for brightly coloured suits to take centre stage at this January’s Golden Globes, bringing vivid fabulousness to a style space long dominated by black and white classics. This fashion evolution isn’t just a fad; it’s a statement about individuality, about contemporary masculinity and the growing influence of gender fluid fashion. Andrew Scott, nominated for his outstanding role in the Netflix series Ripley, appeared in a rich emer- ald green suit that reflected the richness and mystery of the character he portrayed in the hit show. Adam Brody, who earned a nomination for his performance in the enchanting series Nobody Wants This, opted for a bold teal hue, demonstrating that comedy isn’t the only area in which he excels—he has an equal- ly sharp sense of style. Jeremy Strong, Andrew Gar- field and Morris Chestnut all attended the ceremony in equally striking combinations – from velvety bur- gundy tones to pastel blue hues – that redefine how red carpet menswear can look. Who would have guessed that Strong’s solid styling was thanks to the work of Italian heritage brand Loro Piana, known for its strict commitment to quiet, neutral luxury? Even those actors who didn’t opt for brightly colour- ed suits made up for it with playful patterns on mono- chromatic suits, as was the case with Eddie Redmayne and Colman Domingo. And this shift towards colour isn’t just aesthetic – it’s also cultural. Men’s formal outfits have traditionally been linked to strict expec- tations of a black tie, as a symbol of conformity and tradition. Is it not amazing to see male actors begin- ning to realise that taking risks in fashion pays off? The American Vogue cover shot of Harry Styles in a skirt was perhaps one of the moments that opened New fashion choices Year of bold men's suits Who says that men fear brightly coloured clothing? The ever- increasing appearance of colourful suits on the red carpet represents a statement of the self-assuredness of modern masculinity
