The Victorian-style glasshouse and serene Japanese Garden are just bonuses in this urban green spot that opened back in 1847, according to a decree of the then Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Serbia and based on the proposal of renowned Serbi- an doctor and botanist Josif Pančić, who was also its first administrator. The garden was declared a monument of nature in 1995 and a monument of culture in 2007... KOŠUTNJAK It is said that nothing’s more ro- mantic than enjoying mountains dur- ing winter. And when the mountains are too far away, there’s always Košut- njak. Its Aleksandar ski run offers wonderful views of the city, while the complete experience is provid- ed with the addition of snow and a winter idyll. Representing half of Bel- grade’s oxygen factory (together with Topčider), Košutnjak is undoubtedly one of the city’s best-kept secrets. In truth, it isn’t much of a secret, as it’s extremely popular among Belgraders, but it isn’t a place you’ll come across by accident if you're visiting the city.

KALEMEGDAN Regardless of the season or the time of day or night, this place has unique charm that proves irresisti- ble to couples. It is up to you to de- cide whether to spend the time stroll- ing or sitting to enjoy the view of the river and the sunset. It’s impossible to discuss Belgrade without starting from Kalemegdan. This fortress of historical significance, which wel- comes thousands of visiting tourists each year, is the city’s most photo- graphed spot thanks to its medie- val walls, greenery and captivating views of the rivers Danube and Sa- va. Apart from being the city’s top tourist attraction, it also ranks high- ly when it comes to Belgrade’s most romantic locations. And perhaps the fortress’s loveliest spot is an isolated

bench beside the main walkway that provides a direct view of the Ušće con- fluence and the sunset, provided you catch the right moment... From this perspective, one can observe the ex- act spot where the Danube and Sa- va merge and continue to flow in an eternal embrace. BOTANICAL GARDEN Seeking respite in nature at the heart of the city? Rest assured that Belgrade also offers this option.
