Broadening Horizons in the Chemical Sciences

Carla Aldington 2022-2023 Broadening Horizons Cohort

Originally from Cornwall, Carla graduated from King’s College London with an MSci in Chemistry in 2021. During her time at King’s, she conducted two main projects, a final year research project within the Cobb group and a King’s undergraduate research fellowship working with Dr Harvey. In 2021, Carla joined the Barnard and Bull groups at Imperial College London to complete a [1+3] PhD as part of the React CDT using a combination of high-throughput synthesis, solid-phase synthesis and target screening to optimise methodology for the discovery of protein-protein interaction inhibitors. In 2022, Carla obtained an MRes in advanced molecular synthesis from Imperial as part of her PhD programme. Carla was part of the Broadening Horizons cohort one, and is due to start a one year placement with Unilever in September 2023 after applying through the programme.
