Michelle Andrea Salins 2022-2023 Broadening Horizons Cohort

Michelle Salins is an aspiring Synthetic Chemist who was born and raised in Kenya, then moved to the United Kingdom for her undergraduate studies where she will be obtaining her Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry degree at Keele University. She has set her sight on mastering Synthetic Chemistry and is eager to deepen her knowledge on planning and designing efficient synthetic routes for unseen target molecules. She possesses an innate enthusiasm for skincare, haircare and recognizes the profound impact these aspects have on people’s confidence. Michelle, believes in the power of community outreach and is a dedicated advocate for embracing natural hair. She is committed to inspire a movement that celebrates all individuals skin and hair types so they can be proud of their natural beauty.

Seán Adeoti Thompson 2022-2023 Broadening Horizons Cohort

Seán is a 1st Year PhD candidate at the University of York. He completed his BA in Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin in 2022 with a year in industry at GSK. Now, Seán is a member of the Dumhe-Klair & Grogan research groups at the University of York. His PhD focuses on developing and optimising artificial metalloenzymes for biocatalysis. His chemical interest includes bioinorganic-inspired chemistry, organic synthesis and catalysis. Seán is also a part of the first cohort of the Broadening Horizons in the Chemical Sciences programme.
