British Virgin Islands
British Virgin Islands Capital: Road Town Size: 153km2 Population: 31,122 Tax: 8%
Of the 50 plus British Virgin Islands (BVI), only 16 are inhabited. Tortola and Virgin Gorda are the two main islands, the majority of residents residing in the former. Perhaps the most famous is Necker Island, owned by British business magnate, Sir Richard Branson. Some of the standout attractions include Savannah Bay with its mile-long stretch of white sand, Gorda Peak National Park and The Baths, both great venues for hiking and trekking.
The aptly named Flash of Beauty beach does live up to its name! If you’re a big watersports fan, the BVI is a mecca for scuba diving, sailing and surfing. For fish lovers, the lobster season is open most of the year, while music fans can enjoy great music at the annual Emancipation Festival. Although you can’t travel directly to the BVI, there are plenty of connecting flights from London via Antigua and Puerto Rico.
