Foreword

‘Little Botanicals’ was born out of my love for nature and flowers with their wonderful shapes and colours. The way nature can so effortlessly blend colour and form to paint the perfect picture within its own surroundings. This new collection is divided into four chapters;

Little Botanicals Little Water Flowers Small Places Tiny Landscapes

‘Little Botanicals’ is born from my love of flowers, taking inspiration from early Victorian watercolour studies. ‘Little Water Flowers’ takes inspiration from the water lily paintings created by Claude Monet. ‘Small Places’ is based on purely abstract backgrounds which lay the foundation to produce a recognisable and real landscape by incorporating the organic and natural shapes into the composition. The landscape slowly and subtly reveals itself to the viewer with small flowers flowing gently throughout the painting. ‘Tiny Landscapes’ are created on a foundation of marbling which is a traditional technique infused with a very contemporary twist, with inspiration from the artist Gustav Klimt.

Biography

Wendy’s style and method is instantly recognisable, with paintings that resonate with the beauty and history of Impressionism, yet they speak with the contemporary voice and structure of abstraction and even minimalism. Seeking inspiration from her natural surroundings and her own personal life experiences, the design of Wendy’s pieces is very considered; with colours and shapes meticulously planned out long before she actually starts painting. What makes Wendy’s work stand out from other abstract work is her incredible use of colour and composition. Described as ‘emotional abstract work’, her paintings reach out to each individual viewer, revealing different forms and shapes. She is a colour alchemist, using textures and shapes to present an almost ethereal depiction of light, colour and energy,

rarely seen in this type of work. Boldly conceived and skilfully created, it is a collection of art that pays homage to the origins of Abstract Impressionism. She creates highly textured surfaces by layering oil, water based paint and mixed media and - although abstract - every brushstroke has its part to play in the tapestry of shimmering colour that conveys a sense of effervescent spirituality. The finishing touch sees a glass-like resin coating applied to the piece. This enhances both the colour and the deliberate imperfections within the surface of her work, creating a brilliant finish. Wendy has always been influenced by the great Impressionist artist, Claude Monet for his mesmerising palette, which achieves the seemingly impossible by portraying strength and

softness as one. She also finds the bold confidence of Mark Rothko and the beautiful texture and patterns of Gustav Klimt a constant source of inspiration. Wendy’s artwork is highly collectable and she has garnered an international following, alongside a worldwide collector base. Her work, both small and very large scale, can be found in numerous corporate and private collections around the world.

“What I love about creating is that my work to me has a clear strong meaning, but to my collectors they all see something completely different.”
