As our seed and plant distribution evolved, the types of seeds and plants we gave away did, as well. In the early years of these projects, seeds were purchased from large seed companies. These seeds were easy to grow, but because they were hybrid seeds they could not be saved for future growing seasons. More important, these seeds did not have any real cultural connection to the community. It became important to align seed and plant giveaways with Menominee culture and sustainability. It was our goal to eventually move away from purchasing commercially produced plants and seeds and grow our own local seed bank to be replenished each growing season.
