Dear Oakland Promise Community, Reflecting on the past year, I am both grateful and energized by the progress we’ve made and the vision we’re bringing to life. This year was about more than milestones—it was about creating lasting, transformative change to shape Oakland’s future and ensure every young person has the resources to thrive in college or on their defined path to career success. Our commitment to Oakland’s youth is ambitious: by 2030, we aim to put 50,000 young people on a path to economic mobility, focusing on pivotal outcomes like college enrollment, college persistence, and graduation rates—critical drivers for long-term success. Looking ahead, the potential for continued growth and impact is extraordinary. By breaking down barriers and strengthening key partnerships, we are ensuring that every young person in Oakland has access to opportunities surrounded by a strong support system. Together, we can continue to drive equity and prosperity because we believe opportunity changes everything. Thank you for standing with us and for your dedication to Oakland’s future. We’re excited for the journey ahead and the lasting change we’ll achieve together.

OUR CONTINUUM At Oakland Promise, our cradle-to-career continuum is a journey shared with Oakland’s young people and their families, starting from birth and evolving with them through every milestone until they reach their chosen careers. We understand that each stage brings new challenges, dreams, and needs, and our programs—Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College, College Access, and College Completion—are designed to grow and adapt alongside each young person in Oakland. We provide direct services and cultivate strong partnerships with community organizations to ensure no family or student walks this path alone. Our work is deeply rooted in the belief that all Oakland’s

AGES: 5 and under

Our Brilliant Baby program puts Oakland children under age 5 on a path towards college by establishing $500 college savings accounts for them and connecting caregivers to community resources to give each child the best possible start to their academic journey. In addition to the college savings accounts, Brilliant Baby provides financial literacy classes and financial coaching to their caregivers, as well as monthly workshops on topics such as child development, early literacy, and the importance of pre-kindergarten school attendance. Serving Oakland children born in Alameda County who meet income eligibility, Brilliant Baby offers programming in English, Cantonese, Mam, and Spanish to encourage families to start saving early and to view education as a realistic possibility for their kids.

In our organization many of our participants are low income and most people are living day to day. They don’t have access to more than what is available today and to be able to plan for tomorrow is not a possibility. Oakland Promise is offering the possibility of tomorrow.” KRISTA H. Mother, BElovedBIRTH Black Centering

692 Babies were enrolled in our Brilliant Baby program - a 56% increase from last year 84% of Brilliant Baby caregivers surveyed expect their children to attend college after one year in the program 70% of eligible Brilliant Baby caregivers opted in to financial literacy coaching through Oakland Promise and affiliated partners

He sacado mucha información importante. Los coaches también nos han ayudado mucho para instruir a los niños y nos dan buenos consejos. Gracias.” MARIA V. Mother, Brilliant Baby Parent Volunteer

Oakland Promise’s Kindergarten to College (K2C) program inspires kindergarten through fifth grade students and their families to view education as a journey filled with possibilities. Through early college scholarships available to all Oakland public school students, career workshops, school celebrations that promote a college- bound identity, and college tours, K2C encourages students to see themselves as college-bound. To date, 44,000 kindergarteners have been awarded the $100 scholarship, planting seeds of hope and ambition for their futures, and can grow to $500 by the time they graduate from high school. In partnership with Oakland Unified School District and community-based organizations, K2C connects families to resources and guidance on college and career pathways to ensure they know their child has every opportunity to pursue college.

If I have a scholarship for college, it helps me get to college and I can do a sport or some- thing that helps me. One day, I want to go to UC Merced because my sister went there. Being a graduate would help give me oppor- tunities to look for a job.” ISABELLA B. Former K2C student

Oakland Promise has played a pivotal role in my college journey. Not only has it provided me with the resources to pursue higher education, but it has also inspired me to encourage others to follow the same path. Through my involvement with Oakland Promise, I’ve had the opportunity to be part of some incredible experiences, including being featured on the news and having a full-page story about how the program has impacted my life.” “ ROYAL H. Oakland Tech graduate and current California State University, Northridge student

In Oakland Promise’s scholarship presentations, I learned that if I won the scholarship I’d actually receive more than just funds. I’d be a part of an extensive network which provides me with Mentor Support, 1 on 1 advising, and even access to different Oakland Promise related events/ workshops.” ALAN R. Envision Academy graduate (Peer Leader), and current UC Berkeley student

Our College Access program builds upon the foundational knowledge established during our K2C program to ensure that all Oakland 6-12th grade students see themselves as college material and are prepared to apply and matriculate into a postsecondary program. We do this through career exploration, college tours, one-on- one college application support, and an annual scholarship investment to a growing number of high school seniors— giving priority to those furthest from opportunity. These efforts help students build confidence in themselves and their futures. Workshops for caregivers provide tools to nurture these aspirations, and our annual Awards Ceremony celebrates our 12th graders’ achievements, highlighting the power of community support. More than financial support, our scholarships reflect our community’s belief in each student’s dreams. Together with Oakland Unified School District, our charter school partners and community-based organizations, we work to inspire young people to imagine and pursue success on their own terms. 1,170 12th grade seniors awarded scholarships, totaling $4.58 million—a 29% increase from last year 2,012 Middle school students engaged in college and career readiness programming 1,000 78 Community members attended our largest annual Awards Ceremony to honor the Class of 2024 Number of graduating seniors who received the highly competitive Great Expectations scholarship ranging from $8,000-$16,000

Oakland Promise’s College Completion program supports Oakland students in transitioning to young adulthood after high school, navigating postsecondary programs, reaching graduation, pursuing fulfilling careers, and giving back to their community. The demographics of our postsecondary Scholars closely align with those of our 12th- grade scholarship recipients and reflect the diversity of our community, with 18.6% Black/African American, 25.7% Asian, 47.6% Latinx, 3.5% White, 2.7% Multiracial, 0.3% Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander, 0.2% Native American/ Alaska Native, and 1.4% other. Through scholarships, mentorship, and advising, the program provides essential resources and personalized guidance from an Oakland Promise Advisor or one of our partners - Beyond 12. Our CREWS program connects first-year students with experienced peers, establishing campus-specific networks that include financial aid, health services, and resource centers. After postsecondary graduation, our Alumni Program continues this support by encouraging scholars to continue to stay connected to Oakland Promise by participating in career development events and volunteer opportunities. College Completion also creates unique and impactful experiences, such as the recent Global Academics program, where Oakland Promise Scholars traveled to Jamaica this past year. This immersive journey offers Black women students opportunities for leadership development and cultural exploration, fostering self-discovery and deep insights into the Black diaspora.

Oakland Promise has been such a game changer in my college journey. It was initially recommended to me by my guidance counselor at AIMS Charter High School, where I went to high school. Oakland Promise not only gave me financial assistance, but it has strongly encouraged my academic excellence. And it did so by easing a lot of financial worries and allowed me to fully focus on my education. But beyond that, they connected me with mentorship which has had such a big impact and helped me overcome any sort of imposter syndrome and navigate college life the way I want to.”
