Our Brilliant Baby program puts Oakland children under age 5 on a path towards college by establishing $500 college savings accounts for them and connecting caregivers to community resources to give each child the best possible start to their academic journey. In addition to the college savings accounts, Brilliant Baby provides financial literacy classes and financial coaching to their caregivers, as well as monthly workshops on topics such as child development, early literacy, and the importance of pre-kindergarten school attendance. Serving Oakland children born in Alameda County who meet income eligibility, Brilliant Baby offers programming in English, Cantonese, Mam, and Spanish to encourage families to start saving early and to view education as a realistic possibility for their kids.
In our organization many of our participants are low income and most people are living day to day.
