God’s Wandering Children (Part 5)
but it did turn out to be dif- ferent. When we packed up to head for home for the holi- days, we went to her church service. We knew it was going to be different and we were not disappointed. I won’t go into detail because I do not want to influence anyone to practice their teachings. Their meeting place was an old house several miles out of town. They acknowledged God but considered Him to just be “Light” and light is in
everything. A twist on new age. During our travels, we have had many opportunities to join different belief systems. (Matthew 7:15). We do thank God that He exposed each of them to us as counterfeit. “For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, ‘Fear not; I will help thee.’” (Isa- iah 41:13 KJV).

By Harry and Hadassah Wilkinson Summer 2025 Two damaged lives, a yellow truck, an open road, and a life we never could have imagined. When we left our last set up it was because of demonic activity that directly affected us. From this time on, Satan often had people or things in our path that made us make a choice between believing God or allowing circum- stances to control us. These things did not happen every day, but about the time we would get comfortable with whatever surroundings we were in, someone would reach out to cause problems. The quiet German town that we were in when we at- tended church was no excep- tion. It was not very often that we were able to attend church, but when we did, the experience was the same. We did certainly appear to be people that you would nor- mally avoid, so I cannot fault people for doing just that. Churches were definitely not an exception. There would be 2 or 3 that would be curious and start a conversation while everyone else did what the majority of people do: avoid us at all cost. This particular church was different, and troubling, be- cause the pastor literally kept himself out of sight until he finally had to leave. We were having a great conversation with a couple of people and the pastor finally pushed past us and made a rather hurried exit without so much as a greeting. If we had not seen it so many times before from people on the street, it would have bothered us. But to have a pastor act as though we were the kind of person that no “good Christian” would ever talk to was very trou- bling. We did pray for him, but obviously he was not around at the time. (Matthew 7:1-2). The town was generally very pleasant with many friendly people. We did set up and stayed for a few days. There were some that tried to cause us trouble for some reason. We found out about it later. God had
made a way around it by using other people in town to stand up for us. No matter where you are there will be good and evil. This is another lesson that I was slow to learn. Satan has troubled us ever since we got to Texas. It started in Arkansas but be- came constant while in Texas. We finally decided to leave Texas and go to Louisiana. As we got to Hous- ton, we decided to stop and get coffee at a truck stop be- fore we drove through town. While we were there, we de- cided to take a loop around Houston instead of going through the middle of town. After the fact, we can now see where God had His hand on us again, because the timing would have been perfect for us to have been involved in a tornado that hit the edge of Houston. When we got to Louisiana we spent a couple days look- ing for a place to set up. There just were not any places that felt right. We have gotten to where we pay atten- tion to how a place “feels” and trust our instincts about whether we want to stay. It seems Texas taught us to pay more attention to the in- stincts God has given us. We did find a small strip mall where we were able to make arrangements to sell from. We set up at the edge of their parking lot. Once again, we met very wonderful people and then there were the oth- ers that only meant trouble. We had gotten to where we were able to spot trouble
makers rather quickly. The ones that came in dressed in their suits and polished shoes obviously did not be- long. I made it a practice to just watch them and not get involved in a conversation. Then there were the bikers that came by. There were many of them over the course of our travels and we never had a minute’s prob- lem with any of them. They were not all that different from us. They were living the way they chose and as long as you did not do them wrong in any way, they would not do you wrong. I am not saying I condone all of their lifestyle, but nei- ther will I condemn them. They need Jesus Christ just the same as we do. While they were near us, the foul language was not used. For some reason they respected us and did nothing to offend us. We did make it known we were Christian and hope- fully some listened to what we had to say. The opportu- nity to talk about the Lord was not always there, but when it was, we would do our best to start a conversa- tion. We had more help and offers of help from people that are typically shunned than we have from the good upstanding “in-church- every-Sunday” people. It was extremely rare that we were invited to attend a church, but a woman came in several times and visited and did invite us to her church. I am not saying there was anything particu- larly wrong with her church,
