HAMMOND | The Falcons have flown home now to roost until another high school basketball championship season rolls around. St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School lays claim to having the top senior boys basketball squad in all of Prescott-Russell for the second consecutive year in a row. The Falcons represented the region at the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) tournament but ran into stronger teams and also a bit of bad luck with injuries. “We had some tough games,” said Coach Scott Stoqua. SFX lost its first EOSSAA match to Rideau, who later got edged out by North Dundas in the finals. The Falcons’ second and final game of the EOSSAA tournament saw their bench reduced with game injuries against Kingston’s Granite Ridge, another strong- playing team, Stoqua noted. “They (Kingston) hit their shots; we didn’t” Overall, Stoqua is happy with the past season’s performance of the Falcons. “The guys worked pretty hard all season,” he said. “We accomplished our goal of win- ning our league. EOSSAA was good experi- ence, and we were ranked higher going in (fourth in the region) than we had thought.”
