Arts & Cultural Enichment
Art Core
To develop Members’ creativity, awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity through the visual, written and performing arts; hands- on exploration of a variety of mediums emphasizing historical context and cultural significance. GOAL: ARTS & CULTURAL ENRICHMENT
Instruments BRINGING SOUND TO LIFE
Our performing arts program, Instruments, helps members gain confidence, express creativity, and develop more knowledge within the music community. The program consists of 60 minute sessions. Each session is adapted to fit the age of participants as well. Sessions include a short warm-up; a main activity of games, instruments origins; and a 10-minute cool-down. This semester, our curriculum included activities exploring rhythm, sound patterns, the cultural history of various instruments, and hands-on projects where members created their own instruments.
Learning Rhythms
A RHYTHMIC JOURNEY Our DCP El Camino Clubhouse has been alive with the pulse of Samba Batucada, a vibrant style of Brazilian percussion music. Each week, our young musicians gathered to explore the rhythms, beats, and coordination that bring this energetic genre to life.
Through hands-on practice and teamwork, members learned to play traditional instruments, mastered complex patterns, and built their confidence as performers. All their hard work culminated in a show-stopping final performance on May 9th, where they brought the house down with their energy, precision, and joy. It was more than just a performance—it was a celebration of culture, creativity, and community. Bravo to our El Camino drummers!
Building Confidence through creativity.
STEM Programs
DIGITAL AND HANDS-ON LEARNING Technology & STEM Core At our summer camps, members will explore topics in technology, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital music creation. They will also engage in hands-on demonstrations and experiments to discover the science of speed, chemistry, outer space, and more!
ENGINEERING IN ACTION Tech Challenge
Our young innovators stepped up to this year’s Tech Challenge, hosted by The Tech Interactive! Now in its 38th year, the competition tasked students with designing a gravity-powered device to traverse multiple tracks. Over several months, our participants collaborated as teams, applied the engineering design process, and carefully documented their progress. Their hard work paid off in an exciting showcase in May, where they put their designs to the test in front of judges. “The Tech Challenge pushed me in fun, but challenging ways. I had to think creatively, work as a team, and solve problems. It wasn’t always easy, but it was exciting, and I learned a lot about myself. That experience sparked my interest in engineering. In fact, it even helped me decide to shift my future career focus from finance to STEAM. I never would have imagined that joining one Club program could influence such a big decision in my life, but it does.” - Lorayne (Smythe), Junior Youth of the Year (pictured left)

STEM Specialty Programs
SPRING SHOWCASE Code + Create
After ten weeks of brainstorming, planning, prototyping, designing, coding, testing, and improving their own original apps, the top fourteen finalists out of 160 participating members had the opportunity to pitch and demonstrate their apps to a panel of Apple judges . Their task was to address a problem or challenge, and ideas ranged from learning a new language to finding new friends to buying and selling used items.
Congratulations to our top three winners! 1st: Julian (Smythe) - Mental Health Support 2nd: Tunde (Rocketship Alma) - Draw ‘n Color 3rd: Grace (Rocketship Spark) - Healing Music
Our members recently had a blast visiting the Apple Store for a special Apple Camp session! During the workshop, students learned how to create their own short films using iPads and iMovie. With hands-on lessons, they explored different camera angles, created smooth transitions, and added sound effects and music to bring their stories to life. LIGHTS, CAMERA, IMOVIE! Junior Youth of the Year
Junior Youth of the Year
GREAT FUTURES START HERE
Our Junior Youth of the Year program celebrates outstanding middle school members who exemplify leadership, character, and commitment to their Club. In May, Candidates completed a detailed application that included short-answer questions, a personal essay about their Club experience, and a member profile. They also prepared and delivered a 1–3 minute speech and participated in an interview with a panel of BGCSV judges. At the recognition event, each nominee was introduced by a Club staff member who shared why the candidate was selected to represent their site. Final selections were based on the strength of the application, depth of interview responses, and quality of the speech. We’re incredibly proud of these young leaders for courageously sharing their stories and inspiring others with their dedication and growth.
