Circular Economy and Responsible Consumption Manager

Role Purpose and Respons • To ensure the procurement of waste related contracts deliver best value for money, complies with legislation and provides adequate data and information to allow for a comprehensive understanding of waste generated by the university. • To process, compile, analyse and report detailed information of waste management data obtained mainly from waste contractors, as required by internal and external reporting processes, and to use such data analysis to report on carbon impact of waste, and identify and recommend appropriate solutions. • Effectively managing and monitoring of the waste management contracts and providing support for those using the contracts. • To contribute to and support the Responsible Consumption and Waste Group. • To generate quarterly and annual reports on waste and consumption and alignment to the principles of the circular economy. • To lead on the management and administration of waste management contracts. • Develop strategies for the University’s waste management. • Develop circular economy principles for procurement and the supply chain. • To develop and manage specific projects related to the role.

Line Management Responsibilites

• Management of the Waste and Recycling Officer role, responsible for setting objectives to support strategic and operational commitments and training needs via PDR process. • Responsible for recruitment, selection, disciplinary, welfare and other personnel related matters ensuring the best possible development and recruitment of an efficient team equipped with the necessary skills and workforce. • Manage a budget covering all pay and non-pay expenditure of staff, waste. To review monthly budgets and preparation of annual and three-year budget plans.

Directorate Responsilities

• To support in the development of service area plans to achieve net zero carbon by 2035, or before, and to embed circular economy and environmental sustainability as a core element within each service delivery operating model, so that it is the ‘responsibility of all’. • To identify and influence the inclusion of measures and targets for a ciculr economy in the capital plan, residential, sport, commercial activity mainatenance and other operational activity. • To identify and scope any specific or general resources or training in support of developing and achieving a circular economy across FRCS and more generally across the university. • To assist in the development of governance processes, policy, strategy, standards, compliance and reporting on performance. • Provide leadership and management skills in order to develop a collective sense of purpose and team spirit and a collective commitment towards providing a quality service to the University • Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the University Health & Safety policy statements, procedures and arrangements, and particularly the Health & Safety at Work Regulations and all subordinate legislation. • Support with HR related processes in line with the University's policies and procedures.
