Role Purpose and Respons Sustainability • Sit on relevant sustainability groups to provide specialist advice and support. • Provide strategic advice on the development of the university’s energy, water and carbon performance, aligning with local and national policy context, and recommending on use of energy resources to deliver against the university’s sustainability/carbon ambitions. • Advise and contribute to development of the University’s Sustainability Strategy, and related objectives in the Strategic Plan. • Advise on changes in the regulatory landscape, policy trends, and national strategy, in particular with regards decarbonisation and the growth of heat networks and district energy. • To represent the university by liaising and collaborating with external stakeholders, partners, sector and industry leaders to leverage opportunities for the university relating to energy generation and management • To advise FRCS/senior management on regional and national policy movements which may impact upon the university’s energy operations • To proactively engage with local and regional bodies, including the Local Authority, Combined Regional Authority, Climate Panel, Liverpool KQ, other anchor institutions, etc. • Identify, report, and make recommendations as regards high level decarbonisation pathways, the university’s energy/import/onsite generation profile, and inform development of an energy efficiency programme across the estate. • Work with key roles including Building Management System teams, Head of Engineering Services, Maintenance, Head of Capital Project Management, Sustainability Team/s, etc. to support development of relevant environmental and engineering systems, identify and drive efficiency projects/initiatives across energy and water, provide senior advice on the university’s energy operations, provide expertise on carbon performance, and support leadership in pathway development to achieving decarbonisation. • Liaise with staff and students across Professional Services, Faculties, and Liverpool Guild of Students to support positive action and behaviour change as regards energy management and efficiency. • To engage with students on energy relating initiatives for the benefit of the university and the students wider development • Contribute to and deliver relevant sustainability training (energy and carbon) and to assist in the wider development of sustainability training for University staff. • Energy Operations Management • Responsible for development and management oversight of an energy management system, to be accredited to ISO 50001 and in alignment with the university’s UKAS accredited ISO 140001 system. • On request, provide information and/or present to management teams on: energy consumption, energy efficiency, provision of heat, water consumption, costs, carbon emissions, onsite generation performance, etc. • Responsible for ensuring maintenance of the university’s extensive metering network and database, ensuring repairs and compliant upgrades are completed, and managing/ensuring quality provision of evidence through the data network. • Identify, research and implement new approaches for collecting and processing of data and providing information using the latest technology and management techniques, redesigning systems as required to meet customer’s requirements. • Liaise with Maintenance, and in particular Engineering Managers, to identify operational issues and faults affecting the energy centres and district network.
