Role Purpose and Respons • Establish a programme of funding to support investment plans and change programmes on environmental sustainability working closely with finance, development office and academic research teams to target opportunities for grants, donations and endowments, loans etc. Knowledge and specialisms: • Provide leadership and technical knowledge and skills across key areas of environmental sustainability including net zero carbon, circular economy, responsible consumption and waste, biodiversity, travel and transport etc. • Provide leadership and technical knowledge and skills to influence and effect behaviour change at all levels across the university community in the delivery of sustainability aims and objectives. • Be recognised for having specialist knowledge in areas of environmental sustainability relevant to the university strategy to support the build of a community of experts across the university and with external collaborators. Engagement: • Develop relationships with higher education institutions, professional bodies, government agencies and environmental sustainability networks to ensure that the university is engaged with and aligned to leading developments and trends, policy and legislative changes and innovations in environmental sustainability. • Represent the University as required on local, regional and national meetings, committees, working groups etc on environmental sustainability. • Engage effectively with all members of the university community to build understanding, ownership and accountability for the university’s environmental ambitions, aims, objectives and targets. • Engage effectively with local and regional place partners to build ambition, develop strategy, development plans and effect change to deliver environmental sustainability aims on a wider place setting. Directorate responsibilities: • Ensure environmental sustainability aims, objectives and targets are incorporated across all service area planning and performance management to ensure a culture of ‘responsibility of all’. This includes specific measures and targets for sport/active campus, commercial, asset, operations and business support. • Identify and scope any specific or general resources or training in support of developing and achieving environmental sustainability targets across the service. • Assist in the development of governance processes, policy, strategy, standards, compliance and reporting on performance. • Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the University Health & Safety policy statements, procedures and arrangements, and particularly the Health & Safety at Work Regulations and all subordinate legislation. • Participate in the department 'Out of Hours' Emergency Rota which will require the post holder to co-ordinate and manage emergency related incidents outside of normal working hours. • Lead the environmental sustainability team to manage and measure the continuous improvement of environmental performance and priorities.
