Executive Summary

The University of Liverpool is seeking to appoint an industry-leading Sustainability professional to take up the key role of Head of Environmental Sustainability and Energy Services. The University of Liverpool has a diverse and complex property portfolio, incorporated within the main Liverpool City Centre Campus and associated satellite sites. Many of the buildings and assets within the portfolio are listed or are of historic importance so any construction, refurbishment or modernisation works must be carefully considered and delivered to an exemplar standard. Reporting to the Director of Estates Management, this highly proactive role will help shape strategy and policy, establish development plans, identify, and scope innovation opportunities and lead a programme of transformation to deliver environmental sustainability ambitions incorporating NET Zero Carbon by 2035, Biodiversity, Circular Economy and Responsible Consumption and Sustainable Travel and Transport and embedding this across the university. You will develop and deliver the environmental sustainability ambitions within the University Estate Strategy and Campus Development plans. This includes a leading role on programmes of change through Campus Optimisation and Reshaping/ Future Campus, formulating and embedding key principles, objectives and targets into campus operations and development activity. You will develop collaborative working relationships with university academics, advisory groups, external advisors, partners, and networks to lead a community of practice on environmental sustainability. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a Sustainability professional to take up a leadership role across a diverse, complex, and large-scale estate portfolio in a vibrant city.
