ROLE AND CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES Leadership and Management:
• Lead the development and implementation of the environmental sustainability strategy, development plans and delivery targets in support of the university sustainability policy and strategy. • Lead the development and embedding of environmental sustainability principles, objectives and targets into the planning, development and operation of the University estate and facilities. This includes providing environmental sustainability leadership on key programmes including Reshaping/Future Campus, Campus Optimisation, Smart Campus, Active Campus, Asset Data etc. • Lead the development, establishment and delivery of environmental sustainability aims, objectives, measures and targets under the university’s sustainability strategy including the establishment of a robust data driven evidence base to support decision making and performance management. • Lead the embedding of environmental sustainability within the university planning and performance framework including investment planning, business case management and benefits realisation. • Lead the establishment of a collaborative and partnership culture across the university community including working with subject matter experts, supply chains, place and industry partners, and civic leaders to effect ownership, accountability and transformative change on environmental sustainability. • Lead and manage the environmental sustainability and energy teams including responsibility for budgets (pay/non-pay/capital), human resources management and overall service planning and performance management. • Lead the development and delivery of programmes of change and transformation to achieve University wide performance improvements on environmental sustainability. Reporting and accountability: • Lead on the measurement and reporting on the University’s progress in environmental sustainability, including continuous improvement of environmental performance, maintenance and delivery of the sustainability action plan, and supporting the embedding of the UN SDG framework across the university. To include reporting to external agencies for benchmark and compliance purposes. • Ensure the successful maintenance and development of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System to demonstrate and give assurance of continuous improvement. • Provide an annual report on environmental sustainability performance and plans, trends, benchmarks, funding, opportunities and risks. The report is to be presented to the Sustainability Board, Senior Leadership Team, University Council and other key stakeholder groups. • Work in collaboration with the university corporate sustainability and social responsibility teams including dotted line reporting to the senior lead for the area to ensure environmental sustainability is fully aligned with and supports the university sustainability strategy and UN SDG’s. • Ensure that appropriate governance and management of environmental sustainability is in place, including supporting the effectiveness of working groups, task and finish groups and project teams. • Lead the development and delivery of a programme of targeted environmental sustainability standards, accreditations and awards to raise the profile and reputation of the university as a leader in this field. To include THE Impact Awards, SDG Accord, People and Planet, EcoCampus etc.
