O ften described as ‘the Olympics of Jump racing’, The Cheltenham Festival is an event like no other. Four days of the most extraordinary sport, celebrating equine and human superstars and all culminating in the most prestigious prize – The Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday 17 March. The excitement on Tuesday morning is palpable, and by the time the flag goes up at the start of the curtain-raising Grade 1 Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, the ‘Cheltenham roar’ from some 60,000 plus spectator’s ushers in Act 1 Scene 1 of horseracing’s greatest play. There are a total of 28 races to savour across the meeting, including the five ‘Championship’ races which headline the four days – The Unibet Champion Hurdle, Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase, Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle, Ryanair Chase and The Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup.
