NATURAL TREASURE AND WINTER WONDERLAND Unforgettable eastern Serbia Stara Planina, or the Balkan Mountain, is a high mountain massif of mesmerising beauty and pristine nature that represents the largest mountain range in eastern Serbia, a region that’s rich in traditional beauty spots, with treasures of nature and delicious delicacies

STARA PLANINA, AKA THE BALKAN MOUNTAIN, IS PART OF A HUGE RANGE THAT STRETCHES 550 KILOMETRES , all the way to the Black Sea, travers- ing Serbia through the territories of Zaječar, Knjaževac, Pirot and Dimi- trovgrad. The villages in the moun- tain foothills hide stories of the lives of local homeowners, who will al- ways happily await and receive you. This is a land of streams, springs, rivers and, of course, waterfalls. You will enjoy views of surround- ing peaks wherever you look. Here scattered conifers give way to dense deciduous forests, vast mountain clearings, a veritable sea of wild blueberries and starry nights... Crni Vrh (Black Peak) is ideal for touring the western sections of Stara

Planina, particularly if you plan to hike to Babin Zub and Midžor, the highest peak in the Serbian part of Stara Planina, rising to an elevation of 2,169 metres. The nature reserve with the inventive name (Babin Zub/ Granny’s Tooth) is among the high- lights of this part of Stara Planina. Located 1,780 metres above sea lev- el, several hiking trails lead to it and the ski resort at the summit. One fac- tor that cannot be overlooked is the name itself, which has naturally in- spired numerous tales in which the main character is always a toothless old woman. There is indeed a large rock formation there that resembles a tooth, and Babin Zub is indeed a beautiful place that you won’t forget. This Serbian beauty spends al- most five months of the year under snow, and the altitude provides for excellent skiing conditions. Repre- senting one of the Balkan Mountains’ most beautiful landscapes, Babin Zub’s striking rock formations ex- tend up to the southwest of Midžor. The Babin Zub ski resort has a four- seat chairlift with a loading convey- or belt and a capacity of 1,400 ski- ers per hour, as well as a T-bar ski lift with a capacity of 1,200 skiers per hour, while there is also the Marko- va Livada Ski Nursery with a mag- ic carpet lift. An eight-seat gondola lift carries skiers from the resort’s hotel to the further system of chair- lifts and ski runs. A four-seat chair- lift and a ski lift have also been in- stalled in this part of the ski resort, connecting it to the Babin Zub sec- tion. More than 13 kilometres of groomed pistes of various degrees of difficulty have been prepared for skiers of all abilities.

Najviša tačka Stare planine je vrh Botev (2.376 m) u Bugarskoj, a u Srbiji Midžor (2.169 m) Stara Planina’s highest points are Botev Peak

(2,376m) in Bulgaria and Midžor Peak (2,169m) in Serbia
