ALUNGA, PA — Kline’s Services was recognized by Pennsylvania Gover- nor Corbett as one of 19 organi- zations involved in 16 environ- mental projects statewide to receive the 2013 Environmen- tal Excellence Award. Penn- sylvania businesses, schools, government agencies, trade or- ganizations, non-profit organi- zations or agribusinesses that completed projects to promote environmental stewardship and economic development were eligible. The winners were chosen by the state De- partment of Environmental

Protection and the nonprofit PA Environmental Council PEC). People of Central Pennsylva- nia should be proud to know that a business in their own backyard is so dedicated to protecting Pennsylvania’s natural resources – water, air and land. Kline’s Services won the prestigious award for their Methane Digester Electrical Generation Project, Phase 2 of their overall 3-Phase Renew- able Energy Systems Plan to produce alternative energy fromwaste and to reduce their overall environmental impact. This phase coupled an anaero- bic methane digester with a generator to produce elec- tricity from food processing waste. The methane digester system produces approximate- ly 400,000 kWh per month, enough electricity to meet the energy needs of Kline’s Services as well as providing electricity to supplement the local utilities grid. This elec- tricity is net metered through a substation located on Kline’s Services’ property. ■
