Now as a PE himself, Walsh will be able to expand his role to include signing and sealing of engineering plans, submitting drawings for pub - lic submission and testifying before planning boards. As with many accreditations of this kind, the PE certifica - tion is a process the requires commitment to the profession and according to the National Society of Professional Engi - neers (NSPE), it includes re- ceiving a four-year degree from an accredited engineering pro- gram, passing the Fundamen- tals of Engineering (FE) exam to receive Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, achieving four years of progressive en - gineering experience under a PE and passing the Principles and PE exam. “It was a lot of work but something I wanted to do since before leaving high school,” said Walsh. “I can’t say enough about what I’ve learned from Bob and the entire team. College is a great foundation but applying it to real life situations is an excit - ing challenge.” MAREJ
