028a BASIC FRENCH READING R In this introductory French course, you'll learn basic grammar and conversational skills by reading short fiction and poems in easy comprehensible French. By the end of the course, students should be able to carry on simple conversations in French about personal interests, hobbies, sports, routine, and leisure activities while mastering the rudiments of French grammar. No previous experience with the French language required. 027a BASIC GERMAN R For those who have little or no previous knowledge of the German language, emphasis in this course will be on developing basic language skills with correct grammar, form, and pronunciation. We will also cover contemporary German culture. Grammar will be continued in more depth, and we will introduce the past tense and the future tense. Prerequisite: Some basic knowledge of German. The focus will be on expanding and strenghtening grammar, building vocabulary and improving speaking, writing, and comprehension skills. Short homework assignments will be given.
