043 GEOCACHING ADVENTURE Geocaching is a modern treasure-hunting activity, with over 5 million participants in over 200 countries on all 7 continents, that uses coded messages to figure out the GPS coordinates of hidden caches. The program will start indoors so everyone can use Wi-Fi to create an account and download the app if necessary. There will be a brief PowerPoint on various aspects of geocach- ing around the world followed by a group activity to figure out the coordinates of the caches hidden at the Bartlett Arboretum: GC1ANMX High Ridge Cache and the oldest geocache in CT GCE4 another Brick in the Wall. Participants will go on a geocaching adventure along the Bartlett trails, either using personal GPS de- vices or their smartphones to find 2 hidden treasures while learning about the natural environment. 041 CREATE YOUR OWN MINI GARDEN Enjoy the hands-on experience of designing your own Mini Meditation Garden! The workshop will include a brief history of Zen gardens and various ways to meditate in nature, as well as how to properly plant and care for succulents. A ceramic pot and natural materials such as succulents, rocks and sand will be provided. 042 WINTER TREE IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP Participants will embark on an educational journey to discover the unique characteristics of trees during the dormant season. Learn to identify and understand the adaptations that allow certain plant species to thrive in the winter. Using field guides and hand lenses, participants will learn about the subtle differences in twigs and bark that make each tree species distinctive. Engage in hands-on activities to practice your identification skills, and then put your knowledge to the test during a guided walk through the Arboretum.
