and make them feel comfort- able with me. I like to break things down to the simplest terms so that anyone at any level of experience in our in- dustry can understand. What challenges and or obstacles do you feel you needed to overcome to become as successful as you are today? Early on I needed to overcome the idea that I was largely managing people with more experience and often time knowledge of our industry. I overcame this by putting my ego aside and asking a lot of questions.

hat is your great- est professional accomplishment?

What was themost defining moment for you? I was at a function and overheard a sales rep from a large supplier tell a group of people that I was “one of the few young guys who really gets it and is going somewhere”. What is the funniest, most unique situation you have faced / conquered during your career? Or in your life? Probably the fun- niest situation is managing employees that have known me since I worked with them at a very young age and wit- nessed me make a lot of stupid mistakes. 

Nick Pape Chief Operating Officer Years with company/firm: 6 Years in field: 10 Years in real estate industry: 6 Real estate organizations/ affiliations: The Blue Book Building & Construction Network

To shape Old Forge into the team we’ve become has been the most fulfilling endeavor I’ve ever had the privilege of leading. What is yourmost notable project, deal or transac- tion? Our recent alliances with day care operators has become a sizable portion of our portfolio – these are notable opportunities because each transaction provides a set of best practices for the next. We’ve separated ourselves in this space, and it’s exciting to see a specialty organically create a fit for itself in our capabilities. How do you contribute to your company and/or the industry? I contribute to the company by constantly driving our company’s growth through employee management and implementation of new policies and practices. Who or what has been the strongest influence in your career? My father. What impact has social media/networking had on your career? Social media has had a great impact on my career as it seamlessly allows our firm to reach to a much larger client base than would have been possible if social media was not the at the stage it is today. Tell us how and when you began your career in the profession you are in, about your current posi- tion and why you choose the field/profession you are in today? I had worked in the field for my father through high school and college. While working in a different industry after college, I missed watching the physical construction of projects. Our industry is one of few where you get to truly see the fruits of your labor blos- som on a daily basis as you do in construction and real estate development. For this reason and the skill set, I had devel- oped while working for other firms I believed that coming back to my father’s company in a management role would not only satisfy my career goals but keep me motivated every day. What were some of your early goals and did any- thing happen to change them? Early on most of my goals were financially driv- en. Over time my goals have

changed to reflect the constant growth of our company and the people who work with us. I realized that constant growth is much more rewarding from both personal and financial

perspectives. What unique qualities and or personality do you feel makes you most suc- cessful in your profession? I feel like I can talk to anyone
