NEW STYLE REGULATORS
Starting October 1997 Fives North American Combustion, Inc. introduced the improved performance, new design regulators. The new design regulators have improved tracking accuracy and a wider turndown range. The design changes include a new molded diaphragm, a new stem assembly, a new Diaphragm Cover (on the -5, -6, and -7 sizes) and different tension springs (for the 7216's) or compression springs (for the 7218 sizes -01, -0, -1, and -7 only). As of March 1998 all sizes of 7218 and 7216 regulators built and sold are the "New" molded diaphragm style regulator. (The -0 through -4 sizes were released in October 1997; the -5 and -6 sizes were released Janu- ary 1998; the -7 size was released March 1998). A -01 size was added in August, 2000.*
For -5 through -7 sizes: Note that there are now 2 different types of Repair/Upgrade Kits for the -5, -6 and -7 sizes. The -RK (used to repair "new" style regulators only ), and the -UK (required to upgrade old style regulators ). 7216- -UK, 7218- -UK, 7219A- -UK and 7349A- -UK are "Upgrade Kits" that are required to upgrade any existing "old" flat diaphragm style -5, -6, or -7 regulator. Please note that the -UK's come with all the parts required to upgrade any old style regulator as well as repair any new style regulator. If it is not known if the regulator to be repaired is new style or old style the -UK "can" be used to repair either style regula- tor, there will just be some extra parts if used on a new style regulator . The -RK's are available for these sizes because they are priced less than -UK's. The -RK's for the -5, -6 and -7 sizes will only include enough parts to repair a "new style" regulator.
As of 2012 the 7219 and 7349 series regulators have been replaced by the 7219A and 7349A series regulators in all sizes (-01 through -7).
IDENTIFYING REPAIR KITS AND UPGRADE KITS
All Repair Kits sold will be the "New" molded diaphragm style Repair kit or Upgrade kit. "Old" style parts and repair kits are no longer available. All existing, "Old" flat diaphragm style regulators must be "upgraded" to the "New" molded diaphragm style, when repairs are required. Note that the "New" molded diaphragm and the "New" internal com- ponents are not interchangeable with the "Old" flat diaphragm and the "Old" internal components unless all "Old" style internal components are being replaced by upgrading the regulator with "New" style compo- nents. Also note that loose parts are no longer available and a repair or upgrade kit must be purchased to repair or upgrade a regulator.
There are several ways to visually identify "New" molded diaphragm style regulators from the "Old" flat diaphragm style regulators.*
— Unlike the 7216 and 7218 series regulators, the new and old styles of the 7219 and 7349 regulators are distinguished simply by their model numbers, with 7219A and 7349A being the new models which replaces the old 7219 and 7349 models. — New style regulators have a date code stamped on the nameplate under the model number. "Old" flat diaphragm style models have no date code. See illustration on page 1. — The old style -5, -6 and -7 regulators have a "dome" shaped diaphragm cover with a matching dome shaped diaphragm case. The new style -5, -6 and -7 regulators have a new, larger "cylinder" shaped diaphragm cover with the old "dome" shaped diaphragm case. See illustration on page 2.

The -K model regulators with no brass internals are no longer available or required, due to a material change in the new style regulators. The new models come standard with no brass wetted parts, making the -K models obsolete. A standard repair kit or upgrade kit will be used to repair or upgrade old -K models.

For -01 through -4 sizes: When repairing or upgrading any -01 through -4 size regulator (whether it is new style or old style) simply order a 7216-_-RK, 7218-_-RK, 7219A-_-RK, or 7349A-_-RK. This repair kit comes complete with all parts and instructions to repair a new style regulator, or upgrade any existing old style regulator. Old style -RK repair kits are obsolete and are directly replaced with the new style -RK repair kits (for the -01 through -4 sizes).
